UNDER MY DESK

For those of you who have been here, you know that my computer is in the office type area but the pups are welcome in and out of the room as they see fit. It maximizes socialization for them and of course it allows me to enjoy them as well. This picture is today....as I am typing this blog.........most of the pups are under the desk at my feet taking a little nap as I have to reach to type, as they have minimized the foot space that I can have.... LOL. enjoy..........Holly

THE BOYS SACKED OUT WITH MOM

The boys were taking a little snooze with mom until they heard the camera flash. They are so cute!!

DURSEY PASSES EXAMS!!! ANOTHER TMY STAR

GREAT NEWS.......DURSEY PASSED THE DELTA SOCIETY PET PARTNERS EVALUATION ON 6/21/08!!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of him. He sailed through the obedience section, which is basically the CGC test and then the aptitude test. Even though a very young and new dog the evaluators found him very people oriented, focused, joyful..and giver of smiles and laughter.. Their words not mine. I am getting his registration packet together including our vet's medical forms he has to complete for mailing to Delta headquarters I expect to have his license and Delta Ins. in place by end of August. His therapy vest may have to be custom made. We will start in local nursing homes with shadowing in libraries. Eventually we will be able to work with young and pre-k students on reading skills. MONICA

We at TMY are so proud of Dursey and you for all your hard work!!! Holly

Our 2nd annual Yorkie Family Reunion is just a week away........Please let me know if you are coming so that we can plan appropriately. We have had a great response so far. This year we will have an onsite photographer taking pictures as well as lots of great food and some contests to win some great prizes. We hope to see you here!! Taylor Made Yorkies

A STAR IS BORN!!!!!!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!

Taylor's Little Anya, owned by the Gilberts, daughter of Taylor's Sir Grady and Taylor's Jazzy Star, born on January 15th, 2007 has won First Place in the Federated Women's Club Photography contest. This baby photo of Anya was enlarged to 10 x 12 and matted.
Anya is sitting in a cup type scale and it actually shows that she weighs a whopping 1.5 lbs. Her eyes deemed blue in the photo and the enlargement enhanced the color. (Click on the photo t see the enlargement) As the winner at the Maine level, her photo has not been entered at the National level.
The Nationwide National Federated Women's Club judging won't take place until the fall of 2008 and no matter what the results are.............Anya is a winner in our eyes. Holly

SUMMER CUTS

The dog days of summer are upon us and our little ones can get heat stressed just because of coat. Although Ozzie does not look really happy in his after cut, he will benefit from being cooler for the summer. He did look absolutely adorable after it was done. As I do more, I will become more confident. Several of my moms have already received their "summer cuts" to assist them in a more care free summer. If any of you would like to have me groom your pups, give me a call. Holly

RHODODENDRONS POISONOUS AS WELL

Yesterday we had a mishap with one of our pups. The rhododendrons are in full bloom here and as they bloom they shed a shell like leaf. These leaves end up on the ground and are very sticky. Daizie was outside and happened to walk under the bush and the shells stuck to her feet and in her hair. We didnt notice what was happening until it was too late.
When she came in she started pulling them off her feet and eating them. I noticed her chomping on something so went over and there were all these little leaves stuck to her feet and imbedded in her hair. I removed them all but it was too late. Within an hour she was vomiting violently and was hypersalivating. She was a very sick puppy for a few hours but is doing fine today. Ingesting these leaves can lead to: vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, weakness, coma, CNS depression., cardiac collapse and death. We have now put a small fence around the plant so it wont happen again........but just some more info to help you keep your pups safe. Holly

DANGEROUS MULCH-PLEASE READ

Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply andother Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called'Theobromine' . It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like choc olate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die.Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Just a word ofcaution, check what you are using in y our gardens and be aware of what your gardeners are using in your gardens.Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker's chocolatewhich is toxic to dogs.Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine,a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. Adog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacaobean shells developed severe convulsions and d i ed 17 hours later.Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shellsrevealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.

This was sent to me by one of my concerned Yorkie parents. Please read and be careful. Holly

YORKIE KILLED BY BULLDOGS' BITE

I just learned last weekend that one of my show acquaintances lost a yorkie this week to a bulldog. The bulldog lived in her home and they have been around each other for months. They are not sure what caused the attack, but this tragedy is real.
I know I have said it before, but be extremely careful around other dogs. PROTECT YOUR LITTLE ONE.

Taylor Made Yorkies will have its' second annual yorkie family reunion on June 28th. Last year we all had so much fun playing with the puppies and the food was fabulous. Other than the weather being extremely hot, it was a great success. TMY takes pride in the fact that we want to stay part of your family and cares about the puppies no matter where they go.
Mark your calendars now and I will be sending out the particulars in the near future. Holly

EMMA HAS DELIVERED

Emma delivered 3 beautiful little girls just after midnight this morning. We had to ask the assistance of doc Hutchins on the first one as she just was not pushing hard enough. We got up there and suggested we do a section and then he decided to try one more time and was able to pull the puppy out. After that the next two came easily. Mom is resting now and babes are all doing great. The girls weighed in at 5 5/8 oz, 5 oz, and 5 1/2 oz. sooooooooooooo sweet!!! Mom Judy made it down in time to see the last two born. Thanks Sutton for giving us some girls!! Holly

EMMA UPDATE

Dr Hutchins offered to re-xray Emma since the other one that we had done could not tell us how many pups for sure. The new x-ray revealed 3 puppies so we are all set now for the delivery. Why do I x-ray? The reason I have them is to ensure a complete delivery. Each delivery is different and too often I have heard horror stories about a retained puppy. The pup will usually die and often the mom will get a serious infection inhibiting her from being able to care for the pups that were born. There is also the possibly of losing the mom as well.
Each delivery takes a different time pattern . We have had them deliver in less than 2 hours but have also experienced 8 hours. Sometimes mom needs a shot of oxytocin which increases the contractions again so that she can continue having the pups. So many things to plan for and to anticipate with the birth of puppies. Many folks just leave it to mother nature but we have had a 98% success rate compared to others who lose many pups and some moms. We go the extra mile here at TMY.

ONE WEEK OLD

Lib and Sutton's pups are a week old already. It does not seem possible. The bigger boy is the one with his head on top of the smaller pup and the last picture is of the little boy. They are both as fat as little butter balls and both have sweet short noses.........so cute and doing well. Enjoy! HOlly

TRAGIC NEWS..........ROTTIE STRIKES!! EDITED

This week I received a phone call with the most tragic news. A show friend of mine co-owned a beautiful show male yorkie with her friend. His owner had him out for a walk with 2 other dogs and I believe her grandson. They were approaching or passing a home where the owner and a rottie was. The owner yelled dont worry he wont hurt you...........but before she could pick up her dear dog, the rottie attacked and killed him instantly.
NEVER, NEVER NEVER TRUST A BIG DOG WITH YOUR YORKIE............. This is the second time that I have written about this subject. Big dogs cannot be trusted with little dogs especially if they are strangers. The owners are heartbroken, this was not the first time the rottie has been in trouble and the rottie was to be euthanized ( but now I have learned he was placed in a rehab-rescue of some sort) from what I understand. I have left out many details of this story as it is just too gruesome to put to print............but believe me...........I dont and wont care that people say, "oh you are too protective........oh my dog won't hurt your dog...etc etc. I have always been extremely cautious and protective. I watched an akita attack a full grown husky at a show and pick it off the ground and shake it like it was a ragdoll.......just minutes before this happened this same dog reached onto my table at Key.....and I snatched him up like a baby falling..........and alerted the owner.......watch it!!!!!!! In handling class I am careful not to let the yorkies too near the big dogs even on the go round practicing........it only takes a second. Please heade the warning.........whether it be daycare, the park, a stroll down the street. Be careful always!!!! Our thoughts are with the family who lost their dear Benny........Holly

UPDATE: Now I understand that the Rottie has been euthanized. I feel really bad about this but given what has happened it is for the best.........

EMMA FITS RIGHT IN!!

Emma has fit right in here at TMY. Emma is the daughter of Lib and Grady. Although her mom Judy misses her horribly, we both decided it was best that Emma come home to deliver her babies. She is being the perfect girl. Last night as she lay on my tummy when we were watching tv, her little babies were just kicking away. Such a feeling and we are all excited about the delivery which should be in the next few days. Wish Emma a quick and safe delivery and hugs and kisses to mom, Judy! Holly and Emma.

LIBBY HAS DELIVERED!!!

Libby delivered 2 beautiful little boys yesterday morning around 6:30 am. I got up my normal time of 5 am and she was anxious to go outside.......so I let her out with the other dogs and when I let them all back in ..........no Libby......... I called and could not see her so outside I went in jammies and slippers only to find her in the biggest hole she could dig in 10 minutes time!!!LOL. She had found a spot next to the foundation of the house under a tarp that was out there covering the hose reel.......... She was literally covered in black earth and grass..........so in the house we went.......brushed her off and into the whelping box she went. By the time she delivered she was dry and we were able to wash most of the "bed" off from her. Mother nature and instincts take over even when the Hilton awaits.........LOL
She delivered 2 gorgeous little boys within a half hour and everyone is doing great. Weighing in at 6 5/8 and 4 1/4.........Lib in an attentive mom and the little squeeks from the boys again fill the TMY household. Such a happy time!!!!!!!!! Holly

STILL WAITING

We are still impatiently waiting for Lib to deliver. She was nesting a bit last night and her temp has dropped so hopefully we will see some action in the day or so.

On another note, showing this weekend was not as productive either. The cold and rain hampered our performance and the dogs were miserable. Oh well..........another time. I do want to thank Robyn who showed Key for me and helped me every step of the way........karen who held dogs and kept them as warm as possible and Abbey who did the final touches on Lucy for me. I could have not done it without you!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. Holly

WE WILL HAVE PUPPIES SOON!!!!!!!

We are pleased to announce that Libby is expecting on May 4th with our first sired litter from Sutton. We are not sure yet how many pups but I will keep you posted. So far everything is going well and her buda belly is quite big. We are really excited about this pregnancy for a couple of reasons. One, now Sutton will be proven and two, his first litter. We are hoping for some really nice puppies with exceptional silk coats.
At this time we are still questionning whether Emma is expecting as well. She is displaying some signs that she might be but we will know for sure around the 4th of May. Emma would be due approximately May 14th. Sutton is also the sire of these pups. Have a wonderful day! Holly

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT TMY

Well to give all of you an update about what is happening here at TMY, here we go. I am taking some of the pups, Lucy, Sierra, Key and Sutton to handling class on Weds. Our first class was last night and Key and Lucy did pretty well. I am going to alternate dogs each week.
Key is being show in West Springfield Ma on Sat and Sun this coming weekend. Would love to see some of you there to watch. We show close to noon.
Libby is definitely having babies and is due the weekend of the Acton Me show, May 3 or 4th. This will be Sutton's first sired litter and we are anxious to see what we have.
Taryn is home from Michigan and she is doing really well. She is just a little bit of a thing and cute as a button.
We are trying to plan our 2nd annual Yorkie Family reunion for June 28th. So far it looks like the date might be good for folks but will keep you updated. If I have not emailed you and you read this, please let me know if you could make it that weekend. It is not set in stone yet.
Have a great day! Holly

MISS LUCY GROWING UP

Taylor's San Jancito Lucy is growing up. She has a gorgeous silk coat and a sweet personality. She is our acrobat here at TMY, just like her mom was. This girl can jump and nothing seems to stop her........LOL. If you are wondering what is on her tail end, I banded up her coat so when she goes pee, it does not saturate the hairs which will then in turn burn the hairs and they break off. Just a trick to the trade when you want to show a girl yorkie. Holly

HOWIE UPDATE

These are updated pictures of "Howie". Howie is the son of Jazzy and Grady from the 2007 October litter. He is such a doll!!! Enjoy........Holly

TARYN

My darling little Taryn is coming home friday. "Taylor's True Taryn of Eng" has been out in Michigan staying with my mentor, Gert, since my trip out there in February. I had booked my flight to bring 2 dogs home with me but the airline messed up and booked another dog for someone else so when I went to finalize my plans, the airline refused to let me bring 2 as they only allow 2 dogs on a flight. So Taryn had to stay and thank God for Gert. Gertie tells me I should have named her Taryn the Terror!!!!!!!!!!!! as she is a spunky get into everything type girl...........LOL. Within a couple of days there, she had mastered climbing the gates in the house, climbing stairs, found a way to get onto the furniture and had all of Gertie's adults doing circles around her. I think I will have my work cut out for me when she comes home but that is ok. TMY has never backed away from challenges and her personality will sport another outgoing show dog for sure. We are looking forward to her arrival and I will get some updated pictures soon. Holly

KEY IN WEST SPRINGFIELD

Key and I showed in West Springfield on Saturday. He took a first in his class 12-18 mo old dogs but didn't fair against the adult dogs for Winners Dog. Thats ok though........he looked gorgeous.

ENG'S WEST KENT WEEK END WARRIOR "SUTTON"

Our newest member to the family is shaping up and getting ready to make his debut in New England. Sutton is our new boy and he is just a love. I will keep you posted when we are showing and lets hope he knocks their socks off!!

FOLLOW UP NOTE TO OPRAH'S SHOW

I just wanted to do a quick follow up note about the show. I thought Oprah did a wonderful job trying to educate the public regarding the horrible reality of puppy mills and the cruelty that is out there. She also repeatedly spoke to the fact that there are reputable breeders out there so the public has options.
99% of puppies sold in Pet Stores come from Puppy Mills!!! Remember that!!! We collectively can put them out of the business of selling puppies which then can put these horrible mills out of business.
Another point that I want to remind all of you about is that our pups no matter what age MUST come back to TMY if you no longer can care for them or no longer want them. You cannot legally place, sell or give away our pups to anyone!!!!!!
For those of you who watched the show as I did, the impact was what was hoped to be, and many tissues were used that hour. Holly

OPRAH WINFREY SHOW- WATCH TODAY

Oprah Winfrey is doing a whole segment today on Puppy Mills. What you see and hear about these deplorable places will shock you. I invite all of my readers to watch Oprah today and to speak out about against these horrible people and mills.
Ironically I have written about puppy mills just in the last few months. YOU can help shut these places down by:
1. NEVER BUYING A PUP FROM A PET STORE
2. CALL THE AUTHORITIES OR THE TOWN OFFICE AND REPORT WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN SHOULD YOU EVER SEE DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS IF YOU GO TO SEE A PUPPY
3. REPORT TO THE AUTHORITIES SHOULD YOU QUESTION THAT SOMEONE IS DOING THIS SORT OF THING.
4. IF SOMEONE SAYS, " I WILL MEET YOU AT WALMART TO SELL YOU A PUPPY........RUN THE OTHER WAY......" CALL AND REPORT THEM.
I have often said to folks when they call me, "you know, I dont care if you buy a pup from me, but during your search be SURE you are buying from a reputable breeder. If you think the price is too high from me, please just save your money and buy when you can from a reputable breeder. Be sure to ask for references"
You can see many many testimonials on this subject if you google online or even go to Oprah's talk forum..........people bought at pet stores or bought because the dog was "cheap" only to get a pup with many health problems and life threatening issues.
I know this is an awful subject but we have them here in Maine as well..........luckily a couple of them have been shut down this past year. If you have any questions, feel free to chat with me about it. thanks so much . Holly

A SPECIAL HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Hello all. Today is not only April Fools Day but also a very special day for my dear friend Judy. Judy is my web administrator and she is responsible for making my website and talking me into using this BLOG. Without her, I dont think we would be where we are today with sharing our yorkies and information. ((remember Emma?)
Join me in wishing her a very Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!
