NEW AT TMY

My sincere apologies and thank you to all for emailing me to see what is up here. It has been tremendously busy. Unfortunately I have been swamped and I mean swamped with my regular job. As most know I work from home as a Registered Nurse.
Anyway, inbetween I have been showing. Payton earned single pts in Fitchburg last week and one in Springfield this week. She still needs her 3 pt major to finish her Championship. We are not in a hurry and it will come.
Vegas delivered as you know. Her 2 girls are 5 weeks old now. I do not know where the time went. They are very cute and fat little playful butterballs.
Lucy delivered by C section one single female. This little one had a hard time and for 1.5 weeks we battled to keep her going. She all of a sudden just turned around and finally started gaining weight. she nicely weighed over 5 oz at birth but dropped like a rock daily. Now she is 8.5 oz and I think we may be out of the woods. Thanks to SMVC for helping us consistently with her. I will get pictures soon.
Angel is next in line for delivering around 9/15 then Delia around 10/15. Sierra is being bred this week. All in all we are holding our own. A bit of bad luck with a false pregnancy with Meadow this time around.
feel free to write me or call. I always can use a break and thanks again for being so supportive! Holly

RESULTS OF SHOWS

Payton showed very well all weekend.....but we ended up the Reserve Queen at both the Greenfield Ma and the Keene NH show. It's ok, some judges feel that they should not put puppies up for wins over open dogs........we will get there and just having fun.
Tessa made her debute today in Keene......half way around her tail went up which is great. she was timid on the table but that will come........I was proud of her anyway ...Holly

HYPOTHYROIDISM IN DOGS

One of girls that I was growing coat on to show as an adult suddenly gained 3.5 lbs in less than 3 months. Thinking somehow she was bred I had x-rays and took her to a vet. They found nothing. I was told she was fat, put her on a diet and give her exercise. This was back in January. Since that time I did control her eating, walked her and made sure she was getting enough exercise. Her weight now 9.9 lbs ( she used to weigh 6 lbs soaking wet) is affecting her breathing.....she grunts and groans and carrys on. Again concerned because we thought she was coming into season, she bled and swelled just 2 days and poof.....stopped. She has done this twice since January. I took her back to the vets and told him I wanted a thyroid test done.
He felt she had pyo.......she just turned 2 years old in May. Convinced she had an infection I agreed to having other bloodwork done as well. I kept saying she did not have an infection. I was right, no infection and a thyroid level of .3. It should be up over 1.4-3.4 to be normal. The only symptoms was the weight gain, however she does have dark pigment in her skin.
The following are signs and symptoms of hypothyroid.
Lethargy/mental dullness, Hair loss, Weight gain/obesity, Dry hair coat/excessive shedding
Hyperpigmentation of the skin, Cold intolerance, Slow heart rate, High blood cholesterol
Anemia
It is rare to see hypothroidism in toy dogs. With medication she should drop her weight and we should be able to add her to being a mommy her at TMY some day. Hope this helps someone out there.........Holly

WHAT'S NEW AT TMY......

Sorry I have not been writing much on here. The busy summer days with family things and taking care of business...LOL. What's new here at TMY? Well, we are impatiently waiting for our babies to arrive. Vegas is due next Wednesday but could wait until the following week if she decided to. Tessa and Faith are in training for showing. Payton is waiting for majors. We have entered in several shows only to have small entries. Finally a major coming in Keene NH in early August, but that does not mean we will take the win ....but we have to try. Lucy is growing a booda belly, Fallon is finally showing with her pregnancy too. Maybe small litters this time around. Anna Banana has gone to her forever home. I had kept her for showing but her sweet soft personality did her in. She did not like the big dogs at all. I felt it was best to sell her as a pet although I miss her and wished she could have been a show pup. Meadow has a new haircut, really short shave down and she loves it and so do I.........when i find my missing camera I will take pictures.
My daughter in law Danielle is due to have my 4th grandchild any minute.......a little girl. They have a boy, Garrett already. My daughter Jaime just found out she is having a boy in December, they have 2 girls Taylor and Kierney now.
Angel is in season and we will be doing a breeding this weekend. Sopie and Sampson are here as guests for an overnighter........... Well, that is about it for now.......stay cool and don't eat too much potato salad!! Holly

ANOTHER WIN FOR PAYTON

Once again Payton strutted her stuff in West Springfield MA for a Best of Winners, 2 point win on Friday under Judge Dr. Steve Keating. She now is "pointed out" and only needs one major win to finish her championship. This may come hard but we are going to try. I have to reevaluate where I am going, and now I have cancelled my vermont trip as there is only single points. I don't want to take them away from others who can use them. Will keep all of you posted....... Holly

SHOWS

Some of you asked where the shows are or how to find them. Most AKC sanctioned shows are listed on Infodog.com. You can click on show information and then the State you are interested in and find all the upcoming shows in the area. I show at the show listed as AB which is all breed confirmation. You can also click on the judges catalog to find out Yorkie show times once it is posted. You will be seeing other types of shows listed as well.
My next shows are:
July 3 Crackerbarrel Fairgrounds, Wrentham MA
July 8, 9, 10 At the Expo in West Springfield MA
July 16, 17 18 Vermont (click on Vermont to see the show sites) There are 2.

We then will reassess what other shows we are going to. Possibly one at the end of the month in Rhode Island. August is up in the air due to expecting puppies. Holly

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

With the dog days of summer just ahead of us, it is important to remember that your furbabies can overheat and have problems. Here are a few tips to think about as we approach the hottest weather in New England.
1. Always keep fresh water available for your dog.
2. When traveling, provide water often. A bunny feeder water bottle hooked to the side of the crate works well. Dog waters can be found commercially.
3. Be sure your dog eats. Nutrition came combat hypoglycemia and being overheated and excessive panting can deplete their glucose (sugar) in their bodies. Offer small more frequent meals. At a cookout? Small pieces of chicken, watermellon or cheese work well.
4. Never leave your dog in the car even with the windows cracked.! The temperature in a car in the hot sun can rise very quickly to life threatening temperatures. Every year we hear about pets that suffocate from the heat.
5. If you think your dog is overheating, press cold/ice packs against their belly. This will help them cool down.
6. Saturate a towel with cold water and wrap your dog in it especially over the top of the head and ears.
7. Keep them shaded if possible. an umbrella helps in the scorching sun.
8. Take them into the water and submerse their body to cool them down. Dont make them swim, it can cause more stress.
9. Use fans to circulate the air if they are left in a crate or x-pen. Crate fans are available commercially as well.
10. A nice short haircut for the summer months is always helpful.......dont forget...that long coat will grow back.
Enjoy these tips and have a wonderful safe summer.
