WONDERFUL NEW HOMES

These darling little sleeping beauties all have wonderful new homes to go to when they are 12 weeks old. Girl one, now known as Taylor's Captivating JS Denali, "Ali for short" is staying here at Taylor Made Yorkies for potential show and breeding later on, Girl two has a wonderful family in Massachusetts, girl three is staying in Maine in the Bangor area with an awesome family, and girl four is staying in the TMY family, going to my wonderful parents in Central Maine. We are soooooooo very happy to have such wonderful people out there wanting our little babies. Congrats to all of you..........Holly

EIGHT WEEKS OLD TOMORROW

I got up this morning only to find these little monsters outside their pen. I let them play for quite awhile with the big dogs. So far they are all getting along fine and Delia just loves the babies. I snapped these photos right after I put them back in. Every day they look different, act different and get more and more adorable. Enjoy,.... HOlly

PUPPIES AT PLAY

Hi everyone, I just started letting the pups out to play in the office when I am in there..........It is such a "hoot" to watch them romping, running, jumping........ There was a little styrofoam plate in here and one of them found it........as you can see, she is proudly prancing around with it and everyone else wants it. It's amazing to me how much they have changed in just 7 weeks. Today I will take them up to meet Dr Hutchins for their first shots and exam. I plan to be there for an hour, as the staff just love to see the new puppies and to play with them.
Girl 1 is the talkative one........every day when I talk to them she is the one who yipps and barks at me ...jumping with her little front feet. Girl 2 & 3 have similar personalities........both of them take a minute to warm up and then they are the fiesty two...grabbing toys and trying to attack mom, my feet and anything else they can get their little mouths on.........and girl 4 is monkey-see-monkey-do....mocking all the others and letting out the cutest growl to let everyone know she is there too. They are just so darn adorable!!! For the two families that will be new moms/dads......you are very lucky as I have literally recieved a hundred calls on these pups. Have a great day!! Holly

MAINE LAW CONCERNING SALES OF SMALL ANIMALS

"It is unlawful to sell a puppy or kitten prior to the completion of its seventh week of life. In addition, it is required that a breeder and/or pet dealer provide the buyer of the puppy/kitten with a written disclosure indicating their history, including their health records. For more information and to confirm you are in compliance with these animal Laws in The State of Maine, please refer to this link specifically page 65, Item 7 4152 and page 111, item N. Augusta.
Also a reminder to back yard breeders and other breeders in Maine. The laws have changed and if you own 5 or more breedable dogs you must obtain a breeding kennel license from your town and register with the State of Maine. This law went into effect in September 2006 I believe.

$450 YORKIES..SCAMMERS STRIKE AGAIN!!

I just had a very sweet couple leave my house after they came to visit the yorkies. They just were scammed and lost the money they sent to someone for a yorkie. They told me they answered an ad about Yorkies for sale for $450.00. They were told that they did not have any right now, but that they had a friend who did ...and they would highly recommend them. So she sent emails to the "friend" who told them she was 78 years old...and yes she would sell them a yorkie as a favor to the friend.............after many emails...they were told to send a money gram for $450 so they did. They then received an email telling them what flight and what time the dog would arrive at the Portland Jet Port...........but no puppy arrived!!!! When they got home they had an email stating that the woman had gone to get the money gram and they would not let her cash it for 24hours........therefore she took the dog home.......what was she....stupid??!!!! This incident has been reported to the authorities and to the FBI, however, unfortunately they are told that they cannot track or trace emails.............This is a sad situation we all are in. Scammers, identity theft, robberys and more........what or what is this world coming to!!?? I asked them if they had read my alert on the front home page.........they said, "Yes, today, but not last week when we originally called you." Unfortunately if they had, it might have saved them the heartache and disapointment that they are experiencing now..............beware everyone...... Holly

DO WE SELL TEACUPS?????? NO-NO_NO!

A week does not go by that someone either calls or writes me wanting to know if I sell "teacups" or if I have any "teacups" available. NO DISRESPECT INTENDED to any of you who have asked this question, however, if you all remember, I explain to you that there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie, and those unscrupulous breeders who advertise "teacups" for sale or specializing in "teacups" are out for your money and not breeding within the Standard set forth by the AKC for Yorkshire Terriers.
Yes, as a breeder we sometimes get a tiny one that stays little, and may actually never weigh 3 lbs. The picture above shows one of my babes from my current litter. This baby weighed only 2 oz at birth and currently weighs 12oz at 6 weeks-2 days. Do I think she will weigh 3 lbs. full grown............it is too early to tell. I will revisit her weight when she gets to be 12 weeks.
Now.... for size and demonstration purposes only, I tried to "fit" her into the teacup. She hung out, tipping the cup and "da cup done flowed over"..........so I put her into my standard coffee mug that I use everyday. As you can see she fit............., sooooooooo she must not be a "teacup"..........SHE'S A "COFFEE CUP YORKIE!!!!!" lol
All joking aside ......... I just want you to know that I don't sell teacup yorkies, I do try to breed within the AKC standard for their wellbeing and their health. We do have puppies in all sizes that we expect to mature from 3-7 lbs. That is the best we can do.
So if you want to buy a teacup...........try the nearest Antique Store...........cause mine are not for sale as they were given to me from my dearest grandmothers. Enjoy............Holly

PRICELESS PICTURES

Today must have been the day to capture the moment! This is the teeny girl and I caught her sticking her tongue out at me saying, "naa-naa da booboo!"

6 weeks old yesterday and she is the holy terrier!! Holly

HUGGY HUGGY LITTLE BABY

Once in a while you just happen to get a photo that makes you smile. I took this picture today, and literally it looks like Jazzy is giving a huggy, huggy to her baby. The girls were 6 weeks old yesterday..............wow, it just not seem possible and the time has flown by. They are all doing great and are cute as little buttons!! Enjoy! Holly

YORKSHIRE TERRIERS, NUMBER 2 IN NATION

In January 2007 the American Kennel Club unveiled their annual "Top 10" most popular purebred dogs in American. The Labrador Retriever is the most popular purebred dog in the country and has been since 1991, however, this year the Lab shared the spotlight with the dainty Yorkshire Terrier.
The Yorkshire Terrier, more commonly called the "yorkie" has overtaken the beloved Golden Retriever and the German Shepherd to become the second most popular purebred dog in American for 2006. You can read more and look at the great pictures on the AKC website.

The top ten dogs are:
1. Labrador Retriever 2. Yorkshire Terrier 3. German Shepherd
4. Golden Retriever 5. Beagle 6. Dachshund
7. Boxer 8. Poodle 9 Shih Tzu
10. Miniature Schnauzer

ABBIE AND GRADY SITTING HAPPILY..........

Here are the expecting parents............Abbie is due around the 25th of March. We are currently accepting deposits on her babies. She is doing well and has quite the belly going already!
Abbie is a very quiet and loving dog. She is a full sister to Delia, but they both have different looks. Pictures really do not do her justice. She has a beautiful teddy bear type look to her and she has excellent champion bloodlines. She should have some beautiful babies. If you have any questions feel free to call me. Holly

FYI - LUXATING PATELLA (kneecap)

I just love teaching and learning. I keep saying, "I learn something new everyday that I have my Yorkies." I guess that is why I want to continue to write things that may be interesting to some and a learning experience for others.
Today I want to talk about Luxating Patella's in Yorkies.
The kneecap in your dog is on the rear legs up near the hip area. It is not at the "bend" in rear legs. This kneecap is attached by a groove in the bone. Yorkies have very small bone structures and it can easily pop out. The slipping of the kneecap is a common problem in toy breeds and can be slight to severe. Your veterinarian can rate the "slippage" in grades 1-4, with 4 most likely needing surgery due to pain issues.
Dog with luxating patellas often will look like they are skipping or hopping. Your dog may limp or not walk on their hind leg due to the pain related to the slippage. Surgery is usually recommended for Grades 3 & 4.
Is luxating patellas hereditary? There is allot of controversy on this issue. Patella issues can arise from a pup who jumps off from furniture or repeatedly jumps on their back legs at a young age. It can be a result of a fall or trauma to the leg as well. I read recently that 87% of toy breeds have luxating patellas and that they are very common. A grade 1 or 2 is usually not serious and your dog can live a healthful and happy life and it will not affect their quality of life. Luxating patellas are not considered a lifethreatening heredity or congential defect by most breeders.
Did you find this helpful? let me know.......... Holly

BORN SILVER

It's funny how people find you!! In my "Did You Know "section I have a tiny bit of information regarding how yorkie babies are supposed to be born black and tan/gold and I mention silvers and chocolates.
This gal just had a litter of 5 babies born about 9 days ago and one little boy was born silver. She was trying to find out why and what it meant. She has given me permission to use the pictures she sent me, however I have agreed not to disclose her name or where she is from. I will tell you she is NOT in New England!
It's all about Genetics..... do you remember from high school science class???
Yorkie pups are supposed to be born black. The only way a Yorkie will turn the blue color is if they are carrying the Graying gene (Blue gene) BB or Bb. If you have two dogs that both have Bb, and the bb(recessive genes) come together, then you get a dog that stays black. This can happen even if both dogs are blue. Any other combination of BB, Bb, bB, the dog will be a blue.
Dogs that are born blue (silver or gray) carry the dilute gene of dd, which should NOT be in the Yorkshire Terrier breed because it causes the "Blue born puppy." It is a genetic mutation in color. I don't have any information on how the parents get it.
You will see people advertise "rare" silver colored yorkie. BEWARE....as these little puppies are prone to other health problems like skin issues, blindness, deafness and more. A silver yorkie should NEVER be used for breeding!! However, they can be a great pet!
More and more I am seeing "chocolate Yorkies' advertised. In this case the pups are not born black but all brown/tan like the inside of a reeces peanut butter cup. In this instance the Yorkie has an overload of red-gold and this is also a mutuation of the Yorkshire Breed. This pups have liver colored noses and eyes. If these pups are used for breeding, it can cause genetically, a loss of pigment altogether. AKC will register these puppies which may be contributing to out pouring of breedings for off colors. Please.........if you think you are interested in a yorkie that does not have the AKC Standard color, do your homework as you may be buying a pup that will end up with multiple health issues. Otherwise, they make great pets. It is so interesting!!! You can find other information on the internet under color genetics.

LIVER SHUNTS-POTENTIAL THREAT FOR YORKIES

If you have done any research on yorkie health issues, liver shunt will come up every time as a potential threat. There are 2 types, congenital portosystemic shunts and acquired shunts. I will attempt to explain what it is and in the future I will try to also cover other potential health issues so that you can be informed.

A congenital liver shunt is a birth defect that can be deadly. While inutero, a vein that carries blood past the liver develops rather than circulating through the liver. The liver filters all of the impurities out of the blood stream in the puppy, and when a shunt develops, the blood bypasses the liver and these toxins remain in the bloodstream causing serious health problems for the pup. Cogenital shunts usually show signs before 6 months of age.
ONE SIGN OF LIVER SHUNT IS A DOG WHO DOES NOT GROW!
Beware of those breeders who advertise "teacups"...it may be a problem....
The toxins in the bloodstream will cause serious neurological problems. Pups with liver shunts often have digestive trouble, such as chronic diarrhea and vomiting and may be unusually thirsty. You may also see loss of appetite, depression, lethargy, weakness, poor balance, disorientation, blindness, and seizures. Your pup will appear to being growing very slowly. Failure of the liver to clear ammonia means that there will be increased excretion in the urine, hence the diagnostic test of bile salts.
If your pup has any of these clinical symptoms, consult your vet right away. Blood tests will be run as well as a fasting bile acid test. Other diagnostics may be necessary as well.
Depending on the severity of the shunt, treatment may include a low protein diet and medication, but in more cases than not, surgery is needed to close the shunt. The surgery is very expensive and the outcome sometimes is not good.
Do your homework....check out the breeders reputation. Talk to previous clients or the breeders veterinarian. Ask if there has been any incidence of liver shunts. Nothing will be more heartbreaking than to bond with your little one only to possibly lose him/her just a few months later.
Aquired liver shunt usually shows up after the dog is more than a year old. Acquired LS is usually due to an underlying illness or other disease and is not usually a congenital or hereditary problem although it could be.
I hope this has helped you understand the problem. Lots of literature is available on the web including clubs and support groups as well.
Info obtained and summarized from: 1998 Canine Inherited Diseases Database and from "The Yorkshire Terrier" by Deborah Wood & Wayne Hunthausen DVM, 2006 edition.

BEAUTIFUL SILKY COATS

Hi there! These pictures were taken on Saturday the 10th. The pups will be 4 weeks old on Monday the 12th. I just couldn't resist taking the one with Jazzy and babies sleeping. They were all just sacked out and the tiny one just looked so darn cute!!

The other pic shows the shine and texture of their beautiful coats. They are just the silkiest and straightest I have seen. Just gorgeous!!! They are still spending lots of time sleeping, but are playing for short periods, making barking sounds and are adorable.
For those of you who have put deposits on a pup in this litter............boy.......are you ever lucky. These pups are going to be some of the best!!! We also learned this week that all of our adult dogs have some champion bloodlines in their pedigrees...........my dream is to have champions right here at Taylor Made Yorkies. Time will tell!!! KELSI HAD SURGERY

Hi all........it has been a very stressful day. Kelsi had surgery today but everything is fine. Over the past few months I have noticed that Kelsi had been swollen like she was in heat. Sometimes she would bleed but other times she was just swollen. She also spent allot of time licking herself. Recently she started swelling about every two weeks. I was worried, and as worry warts go, I started dreaming that she had a tumor, or maybe cancer and that she would die if she did not have surgery. So last week I took her up to see doc to be checked. We discussed my thoughts and my dreams, and decided to go ahead and have bloodwork first and to put her on an anti-biotic as a precaution. If everything checked out good, we would schedule spaying her.

Kelsi will be 10 years old in April. My central Maine vet used to tell me....."why spay her...she is only 4 lbs and it puts her at too much risk..... she is so little the heats won't be bad...you don't have to spay her.........." so I didn't. I never intended on breeding her as again, I was told by my vet that she was too little. So breeding never crossed my mind. Little did I know that I put her at risk for something more potentially deadly. Here I am, learning something new every day!!

The surgery was slated for today. Dr. Hutchins assured me he would call immediately following the surgery and let me know how she did. What he found was a uterus and fallopian tubes full of a disease called closed pyometra. Her uterus and tubes weighed a full pound. Had the pyometra burst, Kelsi would have died within 24-48 hours. Luckily, Kelsi is fine and is home tonight recovering. She is being a real trooper and is resting.
I want to share with you about the disease, so those of you who have not spayed your older females may reconsider.

Pyometra is a uterine infection where the uterus fills with pus. Pyometra is common in unspayed dogs. It is a serious uterine infection that is potentially fatal. Pyometras can present as either open or closed. In the open form the cervix is open and there may be a foul smelling discharge. In the closed form, the cervix is closed so there will be no discharge. The closed pyometra is more difficult to diagnose and the animal usually will get very sick because the body is retaining the infection.
Symptoms may include, but are not limited to: smelly vaginal discharge, licking more, enlarged abdomen, vomiting, not eating, lethargy, drinking more, urinating more, and dehydration. If your dog displays these symptoms take her to the vet right away to be examined. If a closed pyometra ruptures, the dog will die within 24-48 hours. Open pyometra sometimes can be treated with IV antibiotics but usually will reoccur within one year. Spaying is the best option.

Kelsi will be on pain medication and antibiotics for a few days. Her staples will be removed in 7-10 days. In the meantime, I have fixed her a Queens bedroom in an oversized kennel in the dining room where she will rest, be fed rice, chicken, hamburg and anything else she wants until she is recouperated. I love Kelsi and could have possibly lost her had I not acted on my instincts. Did I take a chance on having a surgery performed like that? Yes this is some risk due to her age and potential complications........but in this case it was worth it!!! I want my first little yorkie to live to be 25!!!!

Hope this has enlightened some of you out there..........it was my lesson for the day!!!!! Holly

GROWING LIKE LITTLE WEEDS

The new puppies are 3 weeks old as of yesterday. I was trying to get a new picture but they were all such wiggle worms it was difficult. New pictures have been submitted to my administrator and they should be posted soon. They are making little barking sounds and starting to play a little. The poor little tiny one gets batted about the box a bit, but I will watch closely so she does not get hurt. I can't wait for them to be bouncing around. Watch for the new pictures!! Holly

Testimonial Letter-from the O'Reillys

"We are a retired couple and veteran Yorkie owners. Last year after we lost our last little boy, "Hammish", we decided we just couldn't live in a Yorkieless house. As we started our search, very good fortune brought us to Holly and her wonderful Taylor Made Yorkies web-site. We then arranged a visit and were greeted by the most beautiful, clean and healthy little dogs you could ever find. We fell in love with a little boy named Toby and placed our claim on him. A few weeks later I brought my daughter to visit Toby and she really took to a little girl named Rosie. After some discussion with Holly we all decided it would be good for both dogs to have the company of each other in their new home. So here we are, the proud parents of two beautiful, lively, and lovely little puppies.

The dogs really love each other and are inseperable. They share everything, play, food, sleep and their antics area constant source of entertainment. The remarkable thing of our experience is the relationship that has developed between Holly (Taylor Made Yorkies) and ourselves. One does not just go pick up a dog and go home. Along with the pup comes a complete support system. It is so comforting to know that at the other end of the phone or e-mail is expert advice for anything that may come up with your new puppy. Every step of the way in gaining this wonderful addition to our family has been a most pleasant experience. Most of all, we take great comfort in knowing our puppies started out their lives in such a healthy and well adjusted environment. Thank you Holly.

RESEARCHING PEDIGREES

It's funny. I know many of you have started a project or perhaps just dove into a venture without clearly thinking it through, or researching the history. I have and it seems that now I realize just how important it was and the should-have, could-haves and would-haves are surfacing! When we started our breeding program we thought that we could depend on other breeders to teach us and share with us what they know. WRONG!! There are lots of breeders of Yorkshire Terriers out there that will tell you what you want to hear, and the others who show and have champions would not sell you a pup for breeding for any amount of money. It is sacred ground that you are attempting to walk on. The answers I have received are much of the same, "I have thousands of dollars in my dogs and I am not going to give away my lines....., I worked 8 years to get where I am and I am not going to give it away.....etc etc." But the reality is, it is true and ownership is theirs......I am now starting to feel the same way. When we ventured into the raising and selling our yorkies pups, we started from scratch..networking, talking and trying to buy with pictures. I dont know how many times I was told, "Yes, I think the dad or mom has champion bloodlines....only to see 3 generations of no champs." Both my husband and I decided even before we had our first litter that we would not sell our pups to breeders, especially in Maine. I unfortunately have had to say no many times already. Like these breeders who have been 8-18-28 or 50 years in the business, we are already wanting to preserve ours. Is it wrong? I don't think so......and only time will tell us if we might produce some champions in the future! I can't wait to find out!!! We will always have pet only sales so don't worry future yorkie lovers.
I have done my homework now.....a bit late but necessary. I have extended pedigrees coming that are in the mail as I write. If anyone out there is interested, there is an efficient and great company called Brewster Pedigrees in Arizona. Just give them a call at 1-800-841-0461 and they will get started researching your dogs. With those, I will be able to trace my dogs lines and make some informed decisions in the future. Wish me luck and Best of luck to you too. Holly

YORK COUNTY KENNEL CLUB

Hi all, I thought I would take a change of pace for today and talk about something other than puppies even though lately, they have really consumed my time and life!!

I want to talk about a local Club that I belong to. It's the York County Kennel Club and we meet every last Monday of the month at 7 pm at the Eldora Boston House located right beside the West Kennebunk Animal Shelter. To learn about their history and what they do, you can go to their website at http://www.yorkcountykennelclub.homestead.com/.

I joined the Club last year after attending an AKC point show that they were hosting at the Acton Fair Grounds. I had never been to a dog show and I was truly amazed!! I had never seen so many breeds of dogs in my life and many of them I had NO idea even what they were called. I was in wonder of all the activity, enthusiasm and knowledge there. Of course my focus was on the yorkies.........but there were many other show handlers and breeders there as well.
For the most part, people would speak with you, answer your questions and be friendly, however there also were those who were stowic, wouldn't even look at you or smile and kept to themselves. That's ok, as the tension and work being done is serious business for many. It could mean finishing a championship or earning points toward their championship to promote their lines and dogs. Either way, for me it was exciting and a BIG learning experience. I networked with a couple of Maine breeders but also with some from Connecticut and New York. Their dogs were absolutely beautiful in their show coats and more!! It was just like being at the Eukanuba Championship show for me!! (you can't tell I was excited!)
Anyway, I met this wonderful lady Charlotte M. Apparently she has been a member of the Club since it's inception. One thing led to another and I joined right on the spot. This group carrys a world of experience and knowledge and I value my membership with them. We not only work hard but we also have fun. I would encourage anyone that has a love for dogs to join. If I can sponsor you let me know.

The Club is holding some fundraisers coming up and here is a sneak preview. On 4/21/06 we are sponsoring an Antique Appraisal Day.....you know kinda of like what is on TV. You can bring one to three items and for a small fee get it appraised. The location will be announced. Watch in local papers and I will post it here. Also the next YCKC AKC Point Show will be held on May 5th and 6th at the Acton Fairgrounds. Save the date and come on out. You will not be disappointed.

On 3/25 There will be a "Meet the Breeds" Showcase at the Saco Recreation building. I am going to try to participate with my girls. Come on out for fun time and to see all the different kinds of dogs. As other activities develop. I will try to keep you posted.

Hope you have enjoyed this kind of information as well.....and maybe you will see me in the showring this year!! Holly

MAKING GAINS-ONE WEEK OLD

Just a quick update for everyone. Jazzys pups are a week old today and are making good gains. Girl 1 weighs 6 5/8oz up a total of 2 7/8 since birth day, Girl 2 53/8oz up 1 3/4, Girl 3, miss teeny tiny 3 3/8 up 1 3/8, and Girl 4, 4 1/4 up 2 1/8th oz.
We have cut back on the supplement feedings to a couple a day and they are tolerating it well. All tails and dews are done now.........soooooooooo cute!!!
Jazzy is being a wonderful mom and is an old pro at mommy hood well.
I have some new photo's but as usual, the batteries died. I will get them on as soon as I can. Thanks for everyone who kept these little ones in their prayers.......we appreciate it more than you know. Holly

NEWBORN UPDATE

I am pleased to say that the new babies are holding their own.
#1 girl now weighs 5 1/4 oz, up 1.5oz in 4 days, #2 girl 4 1/4 oz., up 1 1/8th oz, #3 girl 2.5oz, up 1/2oz and #4 girl 2 5/8 oz, up 1/2 oz.
The two teeney ones are not gaining allot but look stronger and seem healthy. We may not be out of the woods yet, but things look promising.
2 girls are sold already and we are hoping to be able to find wonderful homes for the other two tiny ones. We have been receiving many inquiries but just have not found the right homes yet.
Jazzy is being a wonderful mom and is soooooooo attentive. Of course I am spoiling her to death with lots of protein rich foods and catering to her every need. Having little baby yorkies is lots of work and stressful at times, but for me, it could not be more rewarding or it could not make me more proud.
I truly am blessed to have such wonderful furbabies and so much unconditional love around me. If you feel you are missing something in your life..... maybe it is a yorkie. They can fill any void you may have and love you more than you ever thought yourself deserving. Have a wonderful night. Holly

JAZZYS DELIVERY STORY

Sunday night Jazzy was very restless. She sleeps with me every night and she woke me up several times "nesting" in my bed. I was thinking that she might have the pups on my bed, but knew she would wake me.
Monday morning she would not eat her treats so I knew it would be close. I put her in the whelping box behind my computer station while I was trying to work. About 8 am Dr Hutchins office called to ask how she was doing. At that point I told them she was fine, restless but fine. They wanted to let me know they were in the office and if I needed anything to please call. I could not have a better doc or office to go to for my dogs. I am so blessed for sure!!!
Around 9 a.m. she started pushing. WOW!!! I didn't expect it.....a day early!!!We had to scamble to get everything out we would need at the last minute. After a few minutes we saw our first puppy. We had to assist a little as the baby came breech and her fat little belly was holding up progress. # 1 girl weighing in at 3 1/8th ounce.
About an hour later #2 baby was born. About the same synario, we had to assist, another breech and this girl weighed in at 3 3/4 ounce.
There was quite a long lull with no activity but finally around noon number 3 pup came flying out. I was sitting next to the box and I heard a 'SQUIRT" of water and looked and #3 was lying there. Another girl!!!!! She weighed in at exactly 2 ounces. SHE IS SOOOOOO TINY!!!!!!
In between babies we were trying to get the first 3 to nurse. The little one was rather weak and just would not open her mouth to latch on. I got the premaid newborn milk out, warmed it and I-dropper fed her to get her started. She looked healthy but just so tiny.
We waited and waited for number 4 pup. It was unnerving both my husband and myself. Around 2:15 out popped number 4. Another girl weighing in at 2 1/8 ounce. OH MY GOODNESS....another little teeny tiny. The baby latched right on and started nursing immediately. Still waiting for #5........................................................................................
It was about 4:00pm or so and she started pushing again. My husband had gone outside earlier to put on the snowplow as we were having an icestorm. In a split second #5 had been born. It was a boy!!!! I tore the sack and started rubbing and cleaning like I had the other 4 but something was wrong........I saw him stuggling to take his first breaths.........but I could tell he was in trouble. Of course I yelled to Scott and he came running in. In 2 seconds flat we cut the cord and started working on him.......come on little boy...come on!!!! He took about 3 little breaths more but stopped. I tried really hard to get him going again but to no evail. I lost him. This little tyke only weighed 1 5/8th ounce. He was extremely tiny and underdeveloped. How could I tell??? He was gray in color.......not black, his little eyes were big bubbles like he had more progressing to do......he was so tiny, and as I stroked his little limp body I noticed his ribs seemed crushed on one side and probably puncture his little lungs. It was just not meant to be. I struggled with this loss very much the rest of the day and the next. Shed lots of tears for him and just felt so helpless. Loss is not easy of any kind. I know he would probably have had lots of problems and may have even died after a few days...........but it is still difficult. Scott and I had decided we were going to keep a little male if she had one...........so this was OUR baby we lost.
The moment God took my little boy to heaven, I realized that God needs yorkies too!!!!! I bet he is running around being the "HOLY TERRIER" that they are. I am blessed with 4 girls and I am thankful. Jazzy my little girl is doing great and she is a wonderful mom. The puppies are holding their own. We have continued to supplement with newborn milk day and night. I am tired but it is worth it. Today they actually act a little stronger which gives me hope they all will be ok.
NOW I KNOW WHY I TELL PEOPLE THEY ARE PRICELESS!!!
Continue to keep them in your prayers so that they grow strong and all stays well. Thanks so much.............Holly

Sweet Mommy to be....

Here is a picture of my beautiful little Jazzy Star....Mommy to be.

X-RAY JAZZYS BOODA BELLY

As all of you know if you have been reading my blog, Jazzy is due in just 3 more days. I have been concerned about the size of her belly and how many babies she might be carrying. We had her checked a few weeks ago but couldn't tell. Well finally the day arrived for another x-ray and here it is!!! It is easy to see the 4 round little heads toward the bottom of her belly.........but look out. Up where that pollywog shaped dark area is there is another one!!! 5 babies!!!! We could not believe it!!! This is her first litter and she was only bred one day. We never would have dreamed for five!!! HOLY BELLY NELLIE! So we are impatiently waiting for the big moment. We are all prepared with everything we may need from gauze sponges to baby bottle and newborn milk to having our vet on call. Wish us luck and pray that Jazzy has live births, healthy pups and no complications! We will keep you posted. Holly

WONDERFUL HOMES

Hi everyone. All five of our puppies have been sold to the most WONDERFUL homes. We are so pleased and so happy for all of our new parents. Little Emma is going to the Dexter area. Toby and Rosie are going to the same home near Portland. Maddie is going to central Maine, and Tiny Tia is going to the Bangor area. We have a short waiting list for future pups and we know that one of our future pups will be going to Massachusetts. We do except deposits on future litters so don't miss out on our one of our pups......leave a deposit with us. Many of our pups are sold before they are born.........
Each and every one of our pups is special to us, and it is with the utmost care that we select their new parents. Yes, I said we select them. I have had many inquiries and if you don't meet our requirements then we don't sell the pup. Why? Because we want our babies to have wonderful homes with the right type of environment, as well as we select homes that will spay/neuter in most cases. No puppy mills, no pet shops and no breeders unless you meet our approval.
We recently had a woman from our area call and want to buy a pup. She told me she wanted to breed a litter. I asked her what she had for a male. She told me her male weighed 12, yes I said twelve pounds!!! I told her straight up ....NO WAY!! Our dogs are bred within the standard of 4-7 lbs. There is no way I would sell our little girls to a breeder with a 12 lb male!!!

Last week I was at the vets with a couple of my dogs. They told me again, how much they loved our dogs. They were so pleased with the fact that we breed within the standard and that our dogs are so well cared for. They told me that most of the yorkies they see are huge! 10-13 lbs and of course yorkies are supposed to weigh between 4-7lbs. I harp on this subject all of the time. When you register your dogs with the AKC, it's like taking an oath in my eyes. Breed within the standard and to better the breed. Breeding these large dogs is NOT bettering the breed. Spay/neuter these precious yorkies that have poor confirmation and are too large to be within the standard. Do the breed a favor!! Don't breed just for the money!

Yesterday I was asked why I don't allow full breeding rights with what I charge. NOPE-NO WAY!!! I see ads all the time for poor confirmation -10 lb yorkies for almost the same money. I am talking $100-200....and the best part is we pay YOU to spay/neuter with our rebates. I have made a solid commitment to my dogs and I will not sway. So we might do something different from other backyard breeders in the area? Yes we do.........but it is worth it! Would we sell a pup with full registration at some point......absolutely....as long as the circumstances are right and we approve it. It would also be a pup that we believe has all the attributes it needs to fit within the standard or show potential. I would love to find some homes of people who want to show. Don't hesitate to talk with us....ever. We are reasonable people....but dont be surprised either if we say NO DEAL!!! (I love that show!)

New puppies coming soon...now within 7 days. We are soooooooooooo excited!! Have a great day! Holly

DESIGNER OR MUTTS?

I have been doing some research and reading articles about the barrage of "designer dogs" being bred in the U.S. It's amazing to me that people are spending $400 to $2000 for the cross bred dogs.
It used to be that crosses between AKC dogs were considered mistakes. We called them mutts, Heinz 57's, mongrels and more. But over the last 5 years, but more prevalent the last 2, these cross breeds have become so ever popular. Even movie stars are buying them and flauting them on National TV. We are forever hearing about Labradoodles, Yorkiepoo's, Shizpoo's, puggles, shorkies and more.
One has to wonder why this has become such the rage and such the craze.......
Do you realize that these designer dogs even have their own registering organization like AKC? It's called the American Canine Hybrid Club. My understanding is that they are registering over 500, yes I said FIVE HUNDRED litters per month!!!!
It has been reported by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association that the "number or mutts grew by ONE MILLION to THIRTY-ONE MILLION dogs in the last 5 years." It blows my mind!!!
Many reports indicate that there are more of these "designer dogs" turned into shelters than ever before. Puppy mills are producing pups faster than they can sell them. Many of these poor little God's creatures are ending up not placed in loving homes.
There are also many reports regarding the cross breeding of these dogs and the physical and medical problems arising. Two reports I read talked about the Puggles. This is a cross between a pug and beagle. Apparently they are prone to having their eyes pop out onto their cheeks due to the type of eye socket they produce! I can't even imagine..............!!!!! A very informative article was produced by Jessica Fischer puplished on 06/24/06. You can look it up on the web. The title is "Designer Dogs: Fashionable hybrids may face problems later."
Yes I understand that may breeds are prone to different hereditary and genetic problems, but why breed dogs if one is going to ignore all the literature. As a responsible breeder, I try to breed within the standard. I try to better the breed. I try to make sure that all of my pups go to loving homes and if for some reason they cannot stay with their new parents, the pup/dog MUST come back to me. I screen all of the inquiries that come into me regarding my puppies. I never ever want one of my pups to end up in a puppy mill.
Just yesterday I was speaking with an associate yorkie breeder. She commented that Maine was a HUGE PUPPY MILL STATE!!! I never thought that....but it made me stop and think.

I love Yorkshire Terriers. I love the BREED! Anyone that has owned a yorkie knows what I am talking about. They steal your heart, they become a HUGE part of your life, and they love you unconditionally. Their beauty and loyalty surpasses all other breeds in my eyes.

For those of you out there breeding 8-14 pound yorkies, chocolates, and cross breeding I have a question for you............... Can you honestly say you love yorkies? Can you look at yourself in the mirror and say that when you bought your first AKC registered baby yorkie that you committed to breed within the standard and to improve it? Can you honestly look into the heavens and tell God that you are breeding to share your love for these dogs....or is it for the money???

My dear readers........Help me keep the breed what it is supposed to be..........true full bred, AKC registered Yorkshire Terriers, bred within the standard set forth by AKC. Help me put the puppy mills out of business and help those who care as I, to shame these breeders that breed outside the standard. We together can stop this maddness of designer dogs by boycotting the purchase of them. That will slow them down.............no demand..............no need for supply.

If I have hit a nerve on this subject, my apologies. This is just my opinion, and I welcome yours.

NUVET Vitamins- REMINDER

This is just a reminder that we expect all of our puppies to stay on NuVet vitamins for one year. It is part of our purchase contract. What you do after that is up to you. We have found that NuVet vitamins contribute to the overall health of our dogs. All of my adults get them daily.
You can start your puppies on them at about 4 months of age and continue on this dosage up to 4 pounds, use 1/4 tablet.
For dogs 5 lbs to 10 lbs 1/2 tablet.
To order your NuVet vitamins, call 1-800-474-7044 and you must use the code 30388.
If anyone would like more information, I have brochures available and samples. Just write me or call me and I will send it out to you. Thanks Holly

EARS UP OR NOT???

Over the weekend I was contacted by a young lady named Stacy from Ohio who has a litter of yorkies. Her pups are almost 8 weeks and none of them have their ears up. This is her first litter and she had lots of questions. I don't mind sharing my knowledge at all. Am I an expert? Absolutely not, as I learn something new every day. I am very fortunate to have met a lady who has been raising yorkies for many many years. Gert has helped me tremendously and I know that I would not have gotten through some of the times I have had without her. Gert lives in Muskegon Michigan...just a few miles from Maine...lol. But she is always there for me via email or phone.
Stacy wanted to know when her babies ears would come up. There is no simple answer as all babies are different, particularly when it comes to the size of the ears. If you think about it, if the ears are on the larger end of the spectrum, it is more difficult for the pups to get them to stand. I have found that my dogs with the tiny ears stand by 3-4weeks on their own. Both Tia and Rosies ears came up nicely on their own.
Even though Emma, Toby and Maddie all have what I call a medium ear, the weight of the hair on the ears also makes a difference. I shave the tips down to 1/2 of the ear, top and bottom around week 4. If they still don't stand, I shave the full ear mostly on the top to relieve the weight of the hair on top of the ear around week 5-6. When I play and handle the pups, I massage the bases of their ears to try to strengthen them.
If they have still not come up, I tape them for a couple of days to see if this helps them stand.
I have had really good luck with this practice. Usually within a day or two they are up and standing on their own. Should an ear flop back down, then I tape it again. Always continue to massage them. I have seen a pups ears flop back down around 4 months of age. Teething can cause this. If this happens, shave them down and massage them daily. If they don't come back up you can tape them again.
If a pups ears do not come up on their own, does this mean they are not of good confirmation? Absolutely not!!! Every baby and every adolescent is different. Just show some patience and determination and they will stand and stay up.
One thing that I have learned since starting to raise yorkies is that "most" yorkie breeders enjoy sharing their knowledge and experiences. Of course there are those that wish to keep everything a secret.........but I am not one of those people. I am always here for anyone who might want to talk yorkies, ask questions or just chat. And again, I will always be here for any mom or dad that buys one of my babies........There is never a dumb question!!! Holly

MONSTER CHILDREN

It's 2007 and I awoke to some whimpering. ( 6 a.m. and this is late by most days!) Down the stairs I went and what do I see? There waiting for me are 3 little monster Yorkies that had figured out how to get out of their whelping box, running all around my house!!! They started barking at me with their little yip yip sounds as if to say, "look at me mom........we are exploring!!!" I laughed out loud but relized within a second as I stepped off the bottom step that now the search has begun. Yeck....soggy sock first thing in the morning...........that stinks!
I gathered them up and put them into the playpen. I have approximately a 6 x 10 area gated off where they can play. They have such cute little personalities now. Their little butts wiggle 90 miles an hour, they hop and jump, they yip and attack your feet.........."my little monster children" I say as I give them a hug and a little pat on the head and back. Well I might as well put the other two into play as well. They have such fun together wrestling and exploring.
Then out I go to the living room to hunt out the treasure..........yep...lots of treasures!!! Have a wonderful day...........I have to go and make some wash water.......hehe

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Another year has passed...a time to reflect, a time to count your blessings, a time to make your new year resolutions. 2006 brought some wonderful things to my household and I am counting my blessings for sure. A new job, the purchase of some property and three beautiful litters of puppies without complication, and good health for my family to name a few.
I can think of many friends and families who were not as fortunate as I, as saddness and misfortune went their way this past year. My heart is heavy for those associates and I can only pray that 2007 will bring uplifting days and healing for them.
I was watching the ball drop in New York City last night at the hour struck 12. What does this mean to most people....?? New beginnings? Hope? Love? The end of the war? What ever it may be, and whatever 2007 may bring..........It is a wonderful day when the sun comes up and new day has begun. I thank God for this and pray that everyone has a wonderful, happy, prosperous and healthful New Year. Taylor Made Yorkies

JAZZY STAR UPDATE

Well I just could not stand it. My little tiny Jazzy presented with such a "HUGE" belly with what seemed to pop out overnight......I thought something just had to be wrong. She has 20 more days to go and she looks like she will just bust. I assessed everything myself first.......I checked her temperature.......normal. I looked for purulent discharge......none.....I kept feeling to see if I could feel the puppies move or kick......nothing or maybe???, is she eating ok.........yes, is she pooping and peeing ok...........yep, is she showing any signs of pain........nope. Hmmmmmmm. My little pregnant baby has the belly the size of a mellon. She wants to lay on your lap on her back having you rub that HUGE booda over and over. She makes squeeking sounds with pleasure....."oh that feels sooooo good." I still am worried.........I called my doctor. Doc she looks fine but she is sooooo HUGE!!! I want her checked...........so off to the Vet's we went.

Jazzy loves to ride so going to see the doctor was a big treat for her. Only 10 minutes away from where I live, we arrived. She looked at me to say.......we are here already!!! Not fair!!!

We went in and Doc checked her all over from top to bottom. "Yep......she is pregnant alright!" "Well ya!........I already knew that! Tell me more........is she ok. Look at that Booda!!" He asked me if I was sure about the breeding date. I told him yes, November 14th. There was only one tie. Doc says, "well lets fire up the xray and see what we can see........no sense doing an ultrasound, we will only hear heartbeats with that."

A few minutes later he came in and hung the photo. I really couldn't see much, not like the other xrays I have had done after the 53 day mark.

He said, "Well I really thought you were going to be wrong on the date of breeding. She looks almost like she could deliver, but where she still has 20 days to go, you can see the bone structures are there but not calcified or we could see them by now. See right here, and here, and here....I think these are puppies........and we can't see what might be on the other side or in back of these. It looks like at least 3 to me.........but we will be able to tell more once the bone matures. You would be surprised how just in 20 more days how the bone will thicken and we will then be able to see what is going on. I was hoping we would see more...but we can't. I want you to bring her back on the friday before she is due so we can see what we are going to be up against for the weekend.........just in case!" "Holly she is fine...but we might be looking at a large litter for this little girl!"
Darn...nothing confirmed...for sure! But it looks like she will have at least 3 pups....my poor little Jazzy....leave it to her to have a huge litter for her first. Am I still worried???.......yes a little, but I feel better just knowing that her HUGE BOODA is babies and not an unsuspected infection or something. I just pray all her tiny babies are healthy and she has a smooth delivery.

Knowing a little or too much is sometimes dangerous. Being a registered nurse I think of all the things that might go wrong. On top of that, I heard of a little dog that was bred. The owner wanted to "save money" and did not come in after the 53 day mark to have an x-ray as the doctor recommended. The dog came due for delivery......no delivery...Several days after the suspected due date, the little dog became sick and then the owner decided to take her little dog to the vets. They did an xray. What it showed was one live puppy...overgrown to the point that the dog could never have it naturally and one mummified pup rotting in the little dogs womb. They had to perform an emergency C-section, however, the little mom dog died after a few hours post surgery. Her little body had been poisoned from the rotting fetus. A day or so later the one live pup also died. Now this owner lost both her little female dog and her new puppy. Was it worth saving those few dollars? Is $55.00 well spent for an x-ray to KNOW what you and your little female is up against???? Darn right it is...............I will never deny my puppies big or small vet care. I don't care what it costs. It is my responsibility to make sure they are safe and they have what they need. I have said before and will say it again........I breed Yorkies and it's not about the money. It's the love for the breed, and the love for all of my Yorkie family that keeps me going. These dogs are my babies, my family and a huge part of my life. There are many breeders out there that cannot "honestly" make that statement. Damn you puppy mills! and shame on you.......backyard wanna make a dollar breeders.

I will keep you updated on Jazzy's progress. She is due Jan. 16th and we expect a big litter of tinies. Holly

BROKEN HEARTS-YORKIES LOST

I have been asked to write to make people aware of the potential dangers out there for you and your little dog. It doesn't have to be a yorkie. It could be a poodle, a pug or any other small dog. For years we have heard about the black market for little dogs but who would have thought that it is right in our backyards. Many a dog owner has had their heart broken as their little one has been taken right out of their yard, out of their car and even right out of their own home.

All of the crime and horror going on today has pushed us into being a non-trusting individuals. We lock our houses, we install security systems, we lock our cars, we buy guard dogs. Does any of this help???
We have heard about people leaving their people baby or small child in the car, and the car being stolen with the child inside. More recently we heard about a newborn being taken from a new mom's home. The mom was slashed and left for dead in her own house. What is happening in our world that our safe haven, (our home) is no longer safe? The hazards out there are eminent. Think about the following and consider it all. It could happen to you!!

1. Believe me when I tell you that there is a black market. Little dogs are being stolen every day and sold for drug money or any money that they can get. I have heard of little dogs being stolen out of cars too. Lock your car doors if you have to leave your dog in it. NEVER put your dog outside without supervision, on or off the leash. It only takes a second. Lock your door at your home. My dear friend and web editor lost her yorkie right out of her yard. It only took a second to disappear and the future only brings wondering what ever happened, if he is ok or worse yet, dead.
2. Wild animals attack small dogs for food. Fox, coyote's, coy dogs, fisher cats, bobcats, mountain lions to name a few. Large hawks and eagles are preditors of your little puppies or small dogs. Again, NEVER put your dog outside alone on or off a leash. Even if you have a fenced in yard...these animals can dig their way in and be waiting and hiding for quick lunch. I have heard stories about people hiking out to the eagles next near the old FayScot machine tool place. What they found was a barage of little collars and leashes at the base of the pole.
A woman in Biddeford lost her small dog right off her front porch. She had him leashed out and the dog disappeared. They followed the trail and found the poor dog dead. A fisher cat had hauled him off and buried him just a few hundred yards away from her house. He was coming back to have lunch later.
3. Internet sales or scams. Be sure to check references if you are buying a puppy from another state or off the internet. There are tons of scammers out there. (article posted on my website) You can end up sending your hard earned money to someone who will never send you your pup. Beware!!! The other thing is to really check and I mean really check on what you are buying. Ask for new pictures. Ask to speak to their veterinarian. Ask for references of people who purchased their dog from another State. People tell you things that are not true. Yes I bought some of my dogs on the internet. I can tell you honestly, that 2 out of 4 gave us false information either regarding confirmation or size. Oh don't get me wrong....I would not give my babies up for anything now, but it is disheartening.
4. Falls. Little dogs will fall or jump from high places. We had a family that bought one of our past babies who lost a yorkie when it fell off a bench and hit it's head. Never leave your baby unattended on the couch or anywhere that is higher than they are. This same family lost another one when it ran into the road and was hit. Always put a leash on your pup when taking it outside. Especially when they are just learning commands. They can get distracted easily and bolt for the street. My mom and dad just told me that on the Corinna road a little yorkie ran from a driveway and was in the road, confused and scared. Thank God the man in front of them leaped from his car and grabbed the little guy before he was hit. The car's behind my parents didn't even wait, they just tried to pass both cars and did not even know what was going on.
5. Unknown....puppies chew. They can get sick for reasons we don't know. They can die from respiratory failure due to aspirating vomit, they can just get sick for no reason. Be aware of their behavior...keep a thermometer on hand. A regular rectal one works well. Normal temp is between 100 -103. If above that...call your vet. Diarrhea lasting more than a day. Call your vet. Not eating....call your vet. These little guys are so vulnerable and are at your mercy.
Knowing is half the battle. HOlly

OUR PHILOSOPHY-PRICING PUPS

Hi everyone. Here are a couple of pics taken Christmas day of our last 2 available pups. The one I call Tia has her ears up and she is a little spitfire. Delia's babes ears are almost up at this point. They are both adorable.
A few comments have come our way recently like, "Boy, they charge allot for their yorkies... I'm not going to spend that much... I guess I will stick to a poodle instead....etc etc."
First I want to say that you pay for what you get. Yes, there are some breeders who sell their pups for less...and advertise their dogs for $650 for males and $850 for females in Maine, but their pups usually are raised in a cage with tons of other dogs being bred repeatedly to make a buck. We are not a puppy mill. We hand raise our babies in our home. ANYONE who thinks they can make money at this does NOT have a clue. If you knew what we have invested I know your mouth would drop open...........We guarantee our pups for a year against congenital or hereditary defects. My pups are veterinarian checked and one of my greatest references is my vet. He has sent many referrals to me just by chance. Our adults are also seen repeatedly and often for checks during their pregnancies and after.
The other thing I want to mention is that we are here for you for questions, help, assistance, training...or what ever your needs are regarding your yorkie. Do you think these puppy mill breeders or pet stores will help you......yea they will, they will help you right out the door and rape your pocket book on the way out. I have heard hundreds of horror stories about how sick these little dogs are when they reach the pet stores or come from the puppy mills.
Our mission is to raise yorkies within the standard. This is another area that concerns me. Yorkies are to weigh 3-7 pounds. There are breeders in Maine producing 8-12 pounders......huh...why is that? Because the confirmation of their yorkies are NOT within the standard. Yep, they are selling their dogs for $800-1300. I have seen them advertised many times. Uncle Henrys is a great resource to keep me in the know. I have even had people that own these 12 lb dogs call me and ask me to sell them a female. NO way. My little girls weigh between 3.5 and 6.5 lbs. This would be a C section waiting to happen as well as again, breeding outside the standard. Any one owning an AKC registered dog can read about the standard on their website. They also comment that a responsible breeder will breed within the standard and to better the breed.
Designer dogs.........the craze. I will write more about this but for today, all I can say is that anyone defacing the breeds such as they are, creating these "designer dogs" has little or NO respect for the breed. These dogs are "mutts" and anyone buying these dogs are absolutely crazy! Designer dogs are being sold locally for $400-1000 or more!!!!. AKC does NOT promote cross breeding, nor do they support these actions. I have seen false advertising saying that AKC recommends certain crosses. ALL LIES!!! These breeders truly are in breeding to make a buck. It makes me sick...........
Now that I have all of that off my chest........lets talk about how we price.
My philosophy: "You can never go up once you have told someone a price...........but you can always go down for the right person..............."
Personally I don't like to price my pups before they are born. However, since we have referrals and folks who want a pup...I price this way. $1100.00 for males and $1300.00 for females. You do not get pick of the litter in this synario. Then, we rebate back $100.00 for males and $200 for females at the time when they are spayed or neutered. This helps with the costs associated and it helps prevent my pups from being used as breeders when I have sold them as pets. They are sold with restricted registrations only.
Do the math...my pups cost $1000 for males and $1100 for females. Not much more that the designers out there or any other breeder who cares about there babies. Yes some breeds like poodles are much less expensive....why...because they are readily available at a dime a dozen, just like labs and some other breeds.
I will sell my pups with open registration for certain buyers. However, open registration costs more.... usually $1500 and up. Out of the State may not cost more.
Lets talk about tinys. Tinys cost more money. I can tell you from experience it is "craze" in yorkies. Everyone wants a tiny one!!! If you think about it....6 lbs is pretty small but 2.5-4lbs is really small. Meet my Jazzy..........EVERYONE who meets Jaz wants to take her home!!!!! She weighs about 4lbs, she is petite, cute, is a cuddler and has personality plus. She also has a long beautiful coat. But tinys can come with some additional issues, such as being really prone to hypoglycemia. (see my site for more info). Tinys are heart stealers......just ask me about tiny Tia, one of the pups I have for sale. Tinys start at $1500. and are sold with restrictions for their protection. You think that is allot...go on the web....I see them from $1500 up to and about $5000.00.
Show quality. Some pups are sold as show potential. These pups have to be sold with open registration. As a breeder, we look for certain things in a yorkie that may make it show quality. However, it is really hard to tell sometimes until the dog is at least 4-6 months old. These dogs start at $1500 and up.
Whew........it's not easy being a breeder of Yorkies but to be honest I love it! Think about all that I have said...........CALL and talk with me. If you are the right family for one of my pups...maybe we can consider that ....and the price will go down. I have done that for people I KNOW will take the best care of my babies and give them a life long home. Don't be afraid to ask!!! Come by and visit me...........and the dogs. Show me you are dedicated. I will help you have one. Just talk to me.............. thanks for putting up with me on this subject. Holly

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Happy Holidays everyone. Our holiday is truly blessed. We have such wonderful friends and family, dogs and puppies and wonderful people coming into our lives to be new mom's and dad's in the near future. There is nothing like a Yorkie. They are the most loving dogs. Most of the time mine are "attached to my hip". They go where I go, they pile on top of me when I am watching TV and believe me, I need to buy a larger bed! My apologies that we did not have pups in time for x-mas, however that is something you really can't plan on. The 3 families that have committed to one of our babes are ok with it, and actually said it was perfect as the holiday season can be soooooooo busy and not lots of time for a little one. The pups will be ready around the 10th of January. I will miss them....but all are going to wonderful homes. We still have 2 babes left. Of course I am in no hurry as Tiny Tia has stolen my heart...but I can't keep them all.......smile.

She is a cracker jack! Her ears are up and she has personality plus. She truly has the yorkie attitude and just loves attention. She prances around like the queen bee already. Tia is for sale at $1500.00. She is going to stay small. 5 week weight is 1 pound 3 oz. If interested, give me a call. I want her to have a very special home.

I hope Santa is kind to all of you and that you have many wonderful blessings during this holiday season. Holly

We are EXPECTING again.

Whenever one of your Yorkies comes into heat, the delema begins...to breed or not to breed. Once you decide, then you wonder if you will have a successful breeding.

Jazzy had her 3rd heat in November and we decided to try to breed her. Being what I call a tiny, (4 lbs) she is a bit smaller than my male (4.5 lbs) and the difficulty began. Truly she was a frustrated woman but we finally had one successful tie on Nov 14th. Now the waiting game.......

It is difficult to know if you have had a successful breeding unless you have an ultrasound. They are expensive and really all you can find out is that there are heartbeats. It does not tell you how many puppies in most cases. Because of this, we wait until 53 days have passed and then do an x-ray. The x-ray will give you an indication of size but most of all tells you how many pups you have.

Counting the days of gestation, which is around 63 days, Jazzy is 37 days into her term. Last weekend we noticed her belly was a bit rounder than usual. She is showing other signs of pregnancy for example, her little tits are pink and when you rub her belly she squeeks, and she has a ravanous appetite. It also seems like when a yorkie is expecting their belly emits lots of heat. At least this is what we have found.

Yesterday I noticed her belly feels and looks like it has doubled in size. I noticed she even had a little trouble manipulating the steps outside. My little Jaz is absolutely expecting! I will keep a close eye on her. One always worrys about miscarriage, fever etc. and I have already scheduled her appointment. I did feel a pups roll last evening too. No little kicks yet but definintely something moving.

Looks like we will have a litter of tinys very soon.......now I go back to being the worrysome mom-owner. These dogs are my babies and I will be very cautious. Being a nurse I know all the things that can go wrong.....sometimes that is worse!! Thank goodness for Dr Doug and his expertise.......wiill keep you posted.

Surrogate mom

OK...I did it. Tia now has a new mom and Delia's baby has a foster sister. Tia is the tiny that was born in Libbys litter on Nov. 16th. She is such a tiny little one...about half the size of her brother and other sisters. When I started them on mush last week, she was eating it like she was starving. Lib only jumps in and out, starting the weaning already.
Delia's baby has been really whiney and crying allot because mom is not spending every waking moment in the whelping box anymore, so..hmmmm, I thought Tia would stimulate Delia's baby to play more, (she was sleeping all the time when she wasn't crying), it would give her company so she would not be as lonely, and Tia would get more to eat. So in she went. It was the cutest thing...Tia immediately started playing with her new foster sister and Delia, being so loving immediately cleaned her up and let her nurse. The rest is history. I have to smile when I look at them. A little while ago, Delia was laying in the box and there on either side of her head curled up was the two babies. Of course my camera was not available. It never is when you need it!! It is just amazing to me that Delia was this receptive. She is such a loving mom!!
Lib on the other hand really could care less. She still has the other 3 that attack her when she gets in the box...lol.
Now at least I know that Delia could make a really good foster mom if we should ever need it. Not all dogs are receptive to this. The life and times of Yorkshire Terriers.......I love it!

YORKIE PUPPIES

This is the fun time with our puppies. They are changing every day and are so darn cute. The pups have started peeking out of the whelping box and love to have people pick them up. They are making little barking sounds as if to say, pick me, pick me! All the other dogs love them too. Occasionally we have put them on the floor to explore. They go like mad to see what they can see........its a challenge having 12 dogs in our house. All of our pups are hand raised...NO KENNELS. We try to breed within the standard. All of our dogs weigh under 7 pounds and we have the potential to produce some tinys. Jazzy has been bred and would be due around Jan. 16th. She barely weighs 4 lbs and should have tiny puppies. We will keep you posted but all the signs are there that she is bred. Her puppies will start at $1500. She has the best coat, easy to groom and straight as an arrow. She also has the snup nose face and small ears. Grady and she should produce some beautiful babies. Call for more info....we can do payment plans. The other thing that I would like to mention is that when our pups leave, they never really leave. We are always here for YOU should you have questions or concerns. I have helped with grooming tips, nail care and even injuries. As a responsible breeder, I will always be a resource for you. Have a wonderful holiday season. Holly

TaylorMadeYorkies.com Blog
I have to apologize for not doing anything on here. But those of who know, work, home and dogs seem to take up all the time and there is never enough hours in the day. But here I am, ready to update you. The puppies are growing sooooooooo fast. We still have Tiny Tia available...although I want to wait a bit longer to see how she grows. She is a fiesty little one...a pound and 2 oz right now. She is eating mush and playing hard and loves attention. She has the sweetest face. When we get ready, she will be $1500.00
We also have Delia's baby girl available. She looks just like a teddy bear with the short nose and the tiny ears. I have a feeling she is going to be a real looker and won't be surprised if she is show quality. I again want to wait a few more weeks to see her progression. It's still hard to tell at this point. I am thinking $1300 right now. Don't hesitate to call and talk if you have questions. We have lots invested in our dogs and all are special. I know you won't be disappointed either.
The three other puppies are sold. Toby, the little boy is going to a couple in Portland Maine. They have come to visit and they just love him. Maddie, the biggest pup and first born is going to a family in Central Maine. She will have a 9 year boy to love and play with her.
Last but not least is Emma. She is going to live with Judy, my dear friend and website manager in Dexter, Maine. Emma is a doll and of course I will get to see her occasionally. We are all excited about our potential new homes and moms and dads.
