BIG SECRET SURPISE ON US

If you have been following my blog, you may recall that I posted that we did not have a successful breeding with Delia in April. WELL GUESS WHAT.......DELIA MAY HAVE A BIG SECRET SURPRISE FOR US VERY SOON!!! This is not confirmed yet..........and could actually be a false pregnancy...................but..................Delia has quite the belly going, sure signs of being pregnant and would be due possibly around June 15th or so. Having said that...........I keep feeling for movement which would be the next confirmation for me, and I will plan to take her for an xray around June 8th for finalization!!! Yes we did an ultrasound which was negative for pregnancy, but I had the dates mixed up in my head so it was too early, and he did see some fluid sacks which he said could be the result of a false pregnancy. Oh well, not everything is 100%.

I am so very excited as I really wanted to breed Delia back. She had such an absolute beautiful pup last November and TMY wants another just like her. I will keep all of you posted and if there are any of you interested, I am making a waiting list. Keep reading the blog for updates!! Holly

SOCIALIZATION

The most impressionable time for your Yorkie is 3-6 months of age. During this time it is vitally important that your baby be socialized. After a few days of guiet time when he first comes home with you, start taking your pup everywhere you can. Introduce him/her to hundreds of friendly people. Never force him/her on something especially if they act scared. Let the pup go to them, reach out, sniff.......... Give your pup the opportunity to be exposed to noise, power tools and other animals. Just remember, one bite from a big dog could be the end so be sure you know that they will be safe and never leave them alone with other animals in the beginning.
Watch for signs of stress during this time. They may tuck their tail between their legs, ears will go down, head down and even yawn. If you see your pup doing this, back off and take more time for the introduction.
Keep your pup safe. While your pup is still having their shots, their immunization and protection is low. Do not let them walk in public parks, rest stops or other places where other dogs may have been. Coccida lives in the ground for 2 years or more and other deadly diseases like parvo and distemper could be lurking out there.
This can be one of the best times for you and your puppy...........just be careful and sensible because this impressionable time could make a difference between your pup being a social butterfly or shy and introverted. Holly

MAX AND JASPER GOING HOME

Justine, left top, with her very own Yorkshire Terrier pup, Max, were together today and going home. This young lady, determined to buy a yorkie pup has waited weeks for this day. A student and just a lovely young lady, TMY is so very proud to her have her as a new parent to one of Abbie's pups. I think what I love about her the most is that from the very beginning she asked so many questions, learning and absorbing everything I told her in preparation for her little furbaby. Congrats Justine!!!
Just a few weeks after Justine found TMY and Abbie's pups had been born, a surprize came our way..........Justine's mom and dad, Dave and Karen and brother Jason decided that they just had to have the last available pup from Abbie. Jasper, shown above with his new family is just loving all that attention!! Jasper and Max only weigh 1 oz different and other that a slightly longer nose on Max, they could have been twins. On the fly, this family will have their work cut out for them trying to decide who is being the little devil this time. Best wishes to all of you and enjoy! Holly

4 WEEKS OLD AND GROWING.

Here are new pictures of Ruby's babies. They are 4 weeks old today. In the first picture, the boy is on the far left, Dani-lynn is in the middle, and the other unnamed girl is on the right. They are all so cute and have such nice silky coats.
The bottom left pic is Taylor's Debuting Dani-lynn and the far right pic is Ruby's bigger girl that I have not named yet. Enjoy. Holly

BUYING A PUPPY??

I have had numerous phone calls from people looking for a puppy. During our conversations, I ask if they have done their research and recommend highly that they ask the following questions when inquiring on any puppy. It is vitally important and could make the difference between making a mistake or future heartache. TMY is ALWAYS available to anyone for questions and concerns regarding yorkies..........even if you don't buy one of my pups. If I can help you, I will.
1. Look at mom and dad. Ask what their health has been and ask about their temperment.
2. Look at the pedigree. If there are any in "red" or that have CH near their name...write it down and then go online to find them. Often you can find their owners and call or email and ask questions again about their health.Or take down the grandparents names and do the same.
3. Ask the breeder if they have ever had any livershunt pups. If you are saying now, what is livershunt.........you have not done your research on potential life threatening issues with yorkies. Look back in my archived articles and I have written about it.
4. Observe your potential pup in play. Hold and look at the pup. Is he/she well socialized?
5. If possible, look at the pups siblings.
6. Ask for references......possibly names of people that have purchased previous pups. Call them and talk to them.
7. Ask if they have been examined by a vet. Have they been wormed and had puppy vaccines. Ask for the name of the vet and call him/her. Do they have a health guarantee and contract.
8.Do your research on hypoglycemia. There is lots of info in my website. Go to your local vet and ask for a vial of "Quick Start". It is a high sugar/supplement that can be given anytime when your pup is stressed or sick or even as an adult. Nutristat is available at pet stores. It is similar but I don't like it as well.
9. Inspect the kennel or area ........be sure your pup has been in a clean and healthful environment.
10. If buying on the internet and shipping a pup.........WAIT until the pup is at least 12-14wks old!!!! The stress from the flight may kill your puppy! Make sure you get references and if they are under $500 expect a scam!
I could go on and on and I can't. The main thing is ask...ask...ask! If a breeder is reluctant to answer any of these questions, or refuses to let you see the parents or allow you in the kennel, their may be a problem. BEWARE!! Nothing is worse than buying your pup and losing it before you can even raise it to an adult. The heartache is not worth it! Take your time.....don't rush, wait for a reputable breeder. I know this is the most difficult thing to do...........but it will be worth it. Best wishes to all of you. Holly

NEW MEMBERS WANTED

York County Kennel Club is looking for new members. Do you have a love for purebred dogs? Do you have a sense of committment to their wellbeing and life? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you are perfect for the Club. You do not have to own a dog nor show dogs. YCKC meets the 4th Monday of every month over next to the Kennebunk Animal Shelter. If you are interested in learning more about the Club and what we do, if you want to join a great group of people with common interests and dedicate a small amout of time to a great cause, email me and come to our next meeting. You do not have to live in York County to be a member. YCKC has a website and the link is on my homepage and blog page. Look us up! Holly

NEXT LITTERS-WHEN ARE THEY DUE???

We are receiving so many emails and phone calls regarding available puppies it is unbelievable. When we made the decision to breed Yorkies, we committed to the health and welfare of our adult babies. We don't breed our girls just because they come into season. We look at their weight, their overall condition and the number of pups they had with their last delivery. Some of my girls are on what I call "sabattical" until their next heat cycle. Don't forget, we only have 5 girls available for breeding. The other thing we have to consider is a successful breeding. It does not always happen, but I also wanted to give everyone an idea of when more pups might be available. Here is a breakdown of when we may have more pups. Remember these are only estimates.
Liberty: Due in season early October. Status: Will breed. Whelp month: December. Pups available to go home: late February/March
Jazzy: Due in season: May/June Status: Will breed. Whelp month: August To homes: October
Delia: Due in season: October Will breed Whelp month: December To homes: March
Abbie: Due in season: July On sabattical. Next potential breeding in January '08
Ruby: Due in Season: August On sabattical. Next potential breeding: February '08.

TMY is no longer pre-selling our babies, however we are accepting contracts and questionnairs anytime. You do not have to send any money. What I do is put you on a potential list in the order received. As soon as I have a breeding I will let you know and when they are born I will let you know potential availablity. Each person has refusal and I go down the list. This has worked well for the last litters and all of my pups have been placed in wonderful homes. Should you find a pup somewhere else, a courtesy email or phone call is appreciated. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain if you participate in this process. Of course, I only sell to approved homes. Hope this helps and if you are considering a pup from Taylor Made Yorkies, please send in your questionnaire and contract for deposit soon. You can find it on our home page at the bottom of the page. Feel free to call me with any questions. Holly

HOWLAND TESTIMONIAL

Above: Miss "Tia" Marie, 5 1/2 months old

Taylor Made Yorkies Testimonial

Purchasing a pup at Taylor Made Yorkies (TMY) has been a very positive and rewarding experience. When I found TMY, Holly and precious Tiny Tia (now known as Miss "Tia" Marie) on-line on New Year's Day, my husband, Todd, and I were grieving as we had just recently lost our beloved Sassy - a 2-year old, 3-pound Yorkie. After having Sassy we couldn't imagine our home and lives without a Yorkie. I called and spoke to Holly on New Year's Day. I was so grateful for her sincere compassion and sympathy for our loss. She offered to place a picture in memory of Sassy on her TMY website without any pressure for us to buy one of her puppies. Her compassion and caring extended far beyond making a sale, which I felt was a testament to her having her puppies' best interest at heart. I cannot express how much I appreciated her listening to me and her kind words.
During the week following my conversation with Holly I spoke to several other breeders in New England and visited other beautiful puppies. However, I couldn't bring myself to commit to another puppy until I met Tiny Tia. So, the following Saturday Todd and I took a trip to Arundel to meet Tia. It was LOVE at FIRST SIGHT!! She was PERFECT and everything that we wanted! She was friendly, alert, playful, lovable, and yes...as cute as a button! Likewise, her parents were precious...they were meticulously cared for and within the Yorkshire Terrier breed's standard. Even though we were looking for a pet and companion, these were all important qualities for our new puppy to have. It was so cute when Holly picked Tia up and at the sound of her familiar voice Tia excitedly showered her with kisses... she was shaking all over! It was evident that she was well socialized and had had a lot of attention from Holly because by the time we brought her home she knew her name and she easily adjusted to her new surroundings. She was, and is, so smart and confident. It was great hearing the sound of the pitter-patter of little feet in our home again. Our house once again felt like a home. She makes us smile.
I cannot thank Holly enough for the great job she does as a breeder and as a life-long mother to these little ones. She is knowledgeable, professional, and a dependable resource. She works to ensure a successful transition of her pups into their new homes by giving caring and kind support to the new parents through a comprehensive puppy pack, posting frequent tips on her web-site, and follow-up phone calls and emails - all of which mean so much and are a source of comfort to new mothers and fathers. I know that if I have a question, or if I simply need to brag about Tia and need someone to listen to me, that Holly is just an email or a phone call away.

Like the perfect fit of a taylor-made suit... Miss "Tia" Marie, from Taylor Made Yorkies, is a perfect fit for our home.

Thank you, Holly and TMY, for our little ball of unconditional love and for giving her such a wonderful start in life!! We absolutely LOVE her!

It has been a pleasure working with you and getting to know you.

Your New Friends,

Julie and Todd Howland

SHOW HOPEFUL

Here is my show hopeful for the future. This is Taylor's Million Dollar Kiosck, "Key" as we are going to call him. He is out of Yashanti's Aspiring Abbie and Taylor's Sir Grady. He is the man!! We are keeping our eye on him to see how he develops. Hopefully he is going to be my little show hopeful for the future.
This pup is one of my home bred babies. We are so lucky to be having such great pups with beautiful faces and toplines. I will keep you posted on his progress. HOlly

YCKC- 2 DAY SHOW A GREAT SUCCESS

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that the AKC Show that York County Kennel Club sponsored was a huge success. Even though we were down with entries from last year, we had a great turn out with spectators and all. The weather was beautiful and the Acton fair grounds a great local. Again this year, I saw some of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen. It is just wonderful to see all the breed types and owners taking pride in what they have. The Judges were wonderful, and being part of the hospitality team, I had the pleasure to assist them and interact with them which was a first for me. A HUGE thank you to "Great Beginnings" in Sanford you catered our event luncheons. The food was fabulous and everyone was more than pleased with the selections. If you did not have an opportunity to attend this year, put it on your calendar now for next year. Our show is held the first weekend in May. We are also looking for new club members and if you live in the greater Portland area or southern maine, we would love to share what we do with you. You don't have to have a show dog, but only love dogs and believe in the preservation of purebred dogs. If I can be of assistance to you.........just let me know. Holly

ANYA-HOME FOR A VISIT-16 WEEKS OLD

Anya is home for a visit. My mom and dad brought her down to see us as well as to get her third set of puppy shots. She is absolutely adorable and is the best little girl. Of course her "over protective" parents were nervous introducing her to all the other dogs here initially.......but they all did just fine. They were excited to see her and they played until the could play no more.
Anya was the tiniest little girl out of Jazzy and Grady. She was born on January 15th 2007. Initially Anya had some issues with her back legs as she was squat in her moms belly with 4 other siblings. She was the pup that I performed physical therapy on daily and look at her now!!!! Totally a spitfire of energy with no issues at all.............she is beautiful. HOlly

PICTURES ARE DECEIVING..........

Today I thought I would write a little blurp about pictures. I can remember when I was trying to set up my website with my webmaster. She kept telling me my pictures were terrible and that somehow I needed to take better ones. I laugh now thinking back about it...........as she has our darling Emma, one of Liberty's pups........and I ask her all the time to send me pictures of her. When I get them, I call her and ask her when she is going to send me a good picture of her so I can really see what she looks like!!!! LOL We laugh about it all the time........because it is really difficult to get good pictures of these dogs.
Of course when I am taking a picture, I want ears up, correct stance to show off their toplines and a soft face.........LOL I have given up. The camera comes out, the ears go down and the heads turn away.......they know the flash is coming. Oh well.
The other thing that happens is when you are taking a picture, if you don't have something in the picture of "known" size, the pups or dogs look huge in the pics. I had some people come this past weekend that could not believe how small the dogs actually were............the pics make them look big. All the adult dogs that I have weigh between 4.5 and 7 pounds so when you look at them, think of a 5 lb bag of sugar with a head and legs and there you have it!! Puppies can be visualized in pounds of butter.....................I know this sounds funny, but think about it. We are not professional photographers and I can literally take 12-20 pictures and only have 2 that I feel are worthy of posting. I do my best and maybe this will help some of you that may wonder how big these dogs really are in real life. Have a great day!!! Holly

PUPPY VISITS

Yesterday we had puppy visits by new parents and prospective parents. The dogs and I had a great time but we all slept for two hours when it was over. There is so much preparation, grooming, cleaning, etc but it is worth every minute. Everyone (meaning the dogs) was mostly on their best behavior and everyone looked pretty spiffy in my eyes. How could you not just love these guys!!
Today I came home from work and poor Abbie looked liked she had been malled by these little rascles...........Of course the first picture shows one of the pups laughing..........the second one says...........who us???? and the 4rd one.......please dont take our TV away tonight........we promise to be good..........I just love these puppies!!! HOllly

A NICE THANK YOU.......IT'S ALL WORTH IT!!!

Hope you don't mind I posted this..............but I am sooooooooooo pleased!!!

Dear Holly,
I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how happy we are after yesterdays visit to Taylor Made Yorkies. We weren't too sure what to expect, but when we got there, all of our expectations and then some were met. Our experience in meeting Zach was amazing. When we walked into your house, we were greeted by numerous Yorkies that were all so friendly and just wanted some of our attention. Finally, we were able to meet you face to face and once seeing you, we got a settling feeling knowing that our puppy was in good hands. You were extremely knowledgeable about the breed and also on how to care for them. With the stories that you were telling us we could see that these puppies were loved from the second they were born! Your house was kept immaculate, which was unlike other Yorkie breeders that we had met with. From meeting you, seeing the cleanliness of your house, and the good nature of your dogs, we knew that we had made the right decision in putting our faith in Taylor Made Yorkies to give us a puppy that we will be proud to call our own. Overall, our experience was amazing and I once again want to thank you for taking time off from work to have us come visit! We look forward to hearing from you on the progress of our little guy!
Thanks again,
Jaclyn & Andrew
This kind of note not only makes my day.........but makes everything I do worthwhile. I say thank you.........as I know that another of my pups have found a wonderful future mom and dad!!! Holly

POOP EATERS-A YECKY SUBJECT

Sometimes there are subjects that we don't like to talk about but we need to. "My puppy is eating poop............what do I do??" From an early age, puppies will often lick or eat their poop or one of their siblings. I guess to them, they can smell the outsourcing of their food and try it. It used to be thought that a pup that ate feces was lacking in some nutrition or vitamins but I don't think this is true. Some but most pups will eat their own feces or another dogs'. What can you do?
The best thing to do is while either paper training your puppy or outside training your puppy, pick up the feces immediately and dispose of it. If you see your pup turn to smell it, which is natural say NO very harshly so they don't begin to eat it. You must again use deligence!
If the pup continues to eat feces, there are a couple of products on the market that you can use. One is called Deter. These are little nuggets you can feed your pup that supposably makes the feces taste horrible...........can't imagine that it dosn't taste horrible to begin with but I have never tried it..........LOL. Just be sure to read the label to make sure it is safe for the age of your pup. Most veterinarians will tell you they will grow out of this nasty habit. If you find or know of any other methods regarding this subject..........please share for my readers. Thanks Holly

HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THESE FACES?

Right now TMY has these two pups on HOLD. Our goal now is to keep one girl from each litter. We made the mistake of selling all the girls from our previous litters and a couple of them were definitely show quality and they were sold to pet homes. Although we feel they are at the BEST homes, TMY is always striving to improve their breeding program and to promote it by showing our offspring. Hence the changes we are making. We no longer "pre-sell" our pups either, but we will make a "waiting list" and as pups come available, we will notify you. First on the list has first refusal and so on.
The above pups are 4.5 weeks old. On the viewers left is our choice girl from Abbie. We have not thought of a name yet. On the right is Abbie's tiny boy. The way he is shaping up, he is show potential and may make a great stud dog. He is on HOLD as well. If you would like to submit a name for each of them, send me an email.............I would love the suggestions. Thanks Holly

TICK SEASON FAST APPROACHING & FLEAS TOO

4/19/07 Tick season is fast approaching. Ticks will be hatching and waiting to find a host to have lunch on...........your puppy!! There are many products out there to choose from to protect your little yorkie. I use Frontline Plus. Once applied, it spreads over the dog's body within 24 hours. It is good protection for a full month and is gentle enough to use on 8 week old pups, pregnant and nursing moms.
Frontline Plus kills fleas, eggs and larvae. It keeps all stages of fleas from developing. It kills 98-100% of existing fleas in less than 24 hours.
Frontline Plus also kills 100% of deer ticks between 24-48 hours after contact-before they can transmit lyme disease. It also kills all major species of ticks and kills all life stages of ticks.
Frontline does not repell ticks and fleas..........another words the tick or flea may still seek out your pet. Once on your pet, they bite the animal to get food which is blood.........the frontline immediately kills the pest. You will have to check your yorkie frequently for ticks. If you find one, dont panic!!! and remember..........the tick is not going to hurt you! Grasp the tick as close as you can next to the skin.........use a pair of tweezers if you want...but do not grasp it on the body. Gently pull towards you and hold, hold hold, hold.........the tick if still alive will "let go" and you can dispose of it.................I flush mine down the toilet!
We unfortunately have lots of ticks in my area. It has not been uncommon for me to find 10-20 ticks on my dogs after they have been outside. I check them every time they come in when it is the height of the season. Bath day is always a good time to check them from head to toe......I have found that the ticks tend to migrate to the head and face more on the yorkies than anywhere else. We have to use lawn treatment as well for this problem and you can find it in most gardening type stores or departments. We have never seen a flea here but I know other areas do have problems with them. Talk to your vet and choose a product that is right for you..........but do choose a product!! Holly

YUMMY-MORE THAN MILK?

Here are Abbie's pups trying solid food for the first time. They loved it!! These pups are exceptionally cute and they are so much fun to watch! They all have individual little personalities and when they play it never fails that one end up upside down with their little feet up in the air. They have been so content and they never cry..........they are just the most rolly polly little ones for sure!! Holly

COLE TESTIMONIAL

Dear Holly,
Thank you so much for our precious little Jessi. She has been the sweetest and most social little girl. I feel very blessed to have found you as a breeder. I did a lot of research trying to find a good Yorkshire Terrier breeder. I made many telephone calls and searched many hours online. I finally came across your website and was very impressed with all the information you had available. After reading everything on your website and speaking to you directly on the telephone, it was very obvious to me how loving and caring you were with your Yorkies. I loved the fact that you "interviewed" me before agreeing to sell a puppy to me. Since having Jessi home for week - I have had several questions and you have always been right there to answer them not matter how silly. It is so comforting to know you and all your knowledge are always available. The puppy care package you put together for us when we picked her up was unbelievable and had everything spelled right out for the future care of our new addition.
Thank you so much Holly for allowing us to purchase one of your beautiful Yorkies. I not only found a great breeder but a new dear friend.
Shelley Cole (Jessi's Mom)

PUPPY TRAINING

"Ok.........I'm on the pee pad..........now what do I do???? " Potty training and crate training can be frustrating and discouraging at times. Some pups do better than others in these catagories but do-diligence is the key.
Let's look at crate training first. Crate training is a necessity!! Not only can you use it to keep your puppy safe, but they can learn to stay in their crate at bedtime and for traveling. (never ride with your pup loose in the car or holding your pup). Accidents do happen and the poor pup can be catapulted out of your arms should you hit something or someone hit you. The crate experience should be a positive thing. Do not use your crate as punishment. At different times during the day, put your pup in the crate to sleep. If they cry, say "no"....shhhhhh. and leave them. Within a few minutes they should settle down and rest. At night, use the same tactic. I have put the crate near the bed so that I could reach down and stick my fingers in so they can see that I am right here. I just started this with Ali. She whimpers just a minute or two and then falls sound asleep. I don't hear from her until morning. She is doing great!! What is in my crate? I have a bed or sleeping blanket stuffed near the back....her blankey and a stuffed toy. In the front I place one pee pad and I have put a very small bowl of food and a hampster watering tube in case she gets thirsty. If she does have to pee.......the pad is there. Until the pup holds his/her bladder all night...it at least allows them to elimate on a pad and not on their bed. They do not like to soil their bedding.
When your pup is out and about...........watch them....nose to the ground means ...maybe I am looking for a place to pee or poo. Pick up the pup on put them on a pad. Use the same words..go pee pee or poo poo.......or whatever. Try to keep them on the pad for a few seconds. If you see them start to go on the floor....say NO! and pick them up and put them on the pad. Tell them go pee pee on papers.........good girl or boy. If they go on the floor and you find it.........forget it! Do not punish them or scold them.........they dont remember that far back and wont know why they are getting scolded.
The other thing I have done is to create a small enclosed area with their bed/crate open and pee pads on the floor. I used a bathroom closet with a gate in the door and kept Kelsi there when I went to work or left the house when she could not go with me. Food in another corner. Once they use the pads enough....they will look for them when they have to go.............Good luck...and remember, do-diligence, continuity, consistency. Holly

BUZOTTA TESTIMONIAL

Dear Holly,
I just wanted to write a small note to let you know how much we are loving Lola and thank you for the wonderful and professional experience in buying her from you. I have done many searches online and have spoken to many breeders before deciding on Taylor Made Yorkies for my little baby. I did not rush into buying a Yorkie from just anyone. I researched and spoke to many breeders from all over the United States for 9 months before making my decision to go with you.
When I spoke to you on the phone you were right up front with me. You did not sugar coat anything just so I would buy a puppy from you. You interviewed me as if I were a potential employee because you wanted to make sure your puppies went to the right homes. That was an important part of why I chose Taylor Made Yorkies. You cared where your puppies went to after they left your home!!!
Once I decided to purchase from you, I sent in the contract and deposit. What surprised me the most was that I got almost daily emails from you about Jazzy's pregnancy and pending birth. Once born, I got pictures and updates almost daily!!! I could actutally put together a better 'baby album' of Lola than my own children!!!
You allowed us to come visit the puppies on 2 occassions before we finally took Lola home!!! We are enjoying her so much. Our vet has checked her out and confirmed she is very healthy!! We got so many people commenting on how cute she is.
Thank you for your kindness and expertise in the field of Yorkies. I know that if ever I have any questions about Lola, I know I can count on you to help me out.
Rosemary Buzzotta

YORKIE LOVE

"THERE'S NOTHING LIKE A YORKIE!!! " Have you ever heard this phrase? I have!! In fact I say it all the time because it is true. Yesterday I went shopping for supplies at 3 different pet stores. In the first store I ran into a gentleman carrying a distinguished looking yorkie, "Bentley". Oh, he is a yorkie, right? He's handsome! I told him. The man said, 'Yes, I was opposed to getting him when my wife told me she wanted one....but now, I would not part with him for the world..........there is nothing like a yorkie!
The next store I went to brought a couple of women walking around with an older male yorkie and two new yorkie girls. They looked to be around 12 weeks or so.... "these are our pets, we are not the breeder". Those pups drew much attention and I heard them say, "there is nothing like a yorkie...........we just love them!
Later that day, I took Ali for a socialization outing........."oh look at that yorkie...she is beautiful!"A man approached me and told me he just loved yorkies..........he was carrying a shiz-mix". Obviously, Yorkie Love is in and about us. Every family that we have let adopt one of our babies says the same thing..............."we just love him or her". Yorkies are highly intellegent, committed and loving. There's nothing like a YORKIE!!! Holly

DENALI-12 WEEKS OLD

Denali is the pup we are keeping for potential show. She is out of Taylor's Jazzy Star and Taylor's Sir Grady. She is 12 weeks now and is coming along really well. I have started leash training and we are starting handling classes next week. Denali is very outgoing and is responding to commands already. She will come when called, she has started sitting on command and will walk with me on the leash. We have been practicing the "stack" although she likes to sit in this position........but she will get it after awhile.
As you are introducing new things and commands to your puppy, use a reward system. I use teeny tiny pieces of beef pupperoni and she loves them. She knows if she does what I ask, she gets a piece. I do not give her some for trying........only when she does it.
I do this also when handling her toes, ears and teeth. I tell her, "toes" and I rub them, hold her nails and massage inbetween her pad, the same with her ears. I also touch her teeth and rub my fingers on them as brushing will come soon along with the fact that in the show ring the judge will lift her lips to look at them........Training can be tedious, however, these pups are very intellegent and with consistency and repetitivness, they train relatively easy. GOING HOME WITH NEW MOM

WHAT AN EASTER PRESENT!!!!! Here is Anya going home with her new mom Jane........ It is really exciting for me as Anya is staying in the TMY's family. You see, Jane is MY mom.........this way we get to see her and we are assured the BEST home for her. Congratulations and THANKS Mom and Dad!!! Love Holly

ANYA-12 WEEKS OLD

Here is a picture of Taylor's Little Anya. Anya was the smallest pup that survived in Jazzy's litter. She gave us a run for our money as she was very tiny and needed supplement feedings several times a day. I found out quickly that she liked "Goats milk" rather than dog replacement milk. Not only were the feedings important, but Anya also had "splayed hind legs" from being squished inside her mom with 4 other siblings. I did physical therapy on her legs everyday 2-4 times a day faithfully, praying that she would not have a disability. Anya at 12 weeks old is absolutely perfect!!!! She runs, jumps, plays and trots right along with no sign of inperfection. My hard work and deligence paid off with this little girl. At 12 weeks she weighs 1 lb 9oz. She will probably mature to around 3 lbs. She is just adorable and I think one of the sweetest puppies we have had at TMY. Holly

ABBIES PUPS GROWING AND EYES OPEN

I have to first apologize that I have not been very good about getting new pictures on here with Abbie's pups. Everyone including myself has been extremely busy with puppies and Easter. My webmaster should be updating my website soon as Abbie's pups are now 3 weeks old and now we have a new litter to put on as well. In the meantime, I will try to put some info on here for you to see.

These puppies are absolutely adorable!! Most have that teddy bear look and they are just as rolly polly as ever. Abbie is a great Mom. I have not heard these pups cry and they have been the most content of any litter we have had. They have started to play and walk around in the whelping box as well. These pics are about a week old now so I will be getting some new ones soon. 3 boys are sold and the girl and the little boy are on hold at TMY. Depending how they both progress, they may stay at TMY for future breeding and show. Should I change my mind, you will be the first to know!! Holly

RUBY UPDATE

I took Ruby today for her x-ray. She is expecting 3 little babies. Now if we just get all girls.........LOL. (I hope I did not jinx myself). I am really sorry I did not get a photo of the xray this time. With the power being off here at my house for 2 days from the heavy snow, and also taking the 3 pups up for shots and microchipping...........I totally forgot the camera!! Her babies are all headed out head first and they are lined up in her tummy like a bugle players in a band.......all side by side! She can have her pups anytime from Easter on.........wish us luck!! TAYLOR & KIERNEY WITH PUPS

I have the girls, ( my granddaughters) every Tuesday night and it gives them, and the pups an opportunity to get to know each other. The puppies just love little people!!!!
Taylor, 6 years old, is our namesake for our Kennel name........and Kierney, one year old, just loves the puppies and enjoys getting puppy kisses. Holly

SNUGGLED IN- EYES OPEN

Most of the pups eyes opened yesterday. I went upstairs this morning to get some pictures to put on and there just was no way. All the pups were snuggled in and sleeping soundly. I will try later.
I did however get growth weights yesterday. The pups are 16 days old. The winner of the little piggy award is the little girl!! I have banded the boys with colors........they were getting to hard to tell apart as they all are adorable and about the same sizes. They are as follows:
Female (pink) 3 7/8oz now 12 5/8oz
Boy(yellow)2 1/2oz now 8 3/4oz Boy (blue) 4.25 now 12 1/2oz Boy (Peach) 4 now 11 5/8oz Boy (green) 3 7/8oz now 11 3/8oz.
Everyone is doing great and we will try to get open eyes pics soon. Holly

TINY BOY UPDATE

My tiny boy is doing well this morning. He is alert and hungry.......nursing and active. His lungs sound perfectly clear and he appears to not be having any issues. I will continue to keep a close eye on him for the next several days to be sure nothing pops up! If you have friends that breed dogs and you think of it, pass this story along. It can happen......... but I can guarantee all of you...that it wont happen again here!! Holly

PET FOOD RECALL

As most of you have heard there is a nation wide pet food recall on many brands of cat and dog food. There are also several brands of treats and chews that are being recalled now. Although the pet food companies are not telling us what is poisoning our cats and dogs, it appears it may have something to do with wheat gluten used to congeal the gravys in some of these foods. The tainted food causes kidney failure and death for the most part. Some signs and symptoms are known to be vomiting, lethargy and excessive thirst.
Taylor Made Yorkies feeds Purina One, Purina One Puppy and Royal Canin-Baby dog 30, 33 and adult. (both dry foods). I do feed my pups and my nursing moms Pedigree canned puppy and Pedigree Choice cuts in sauce. I have stopped all canned foods until they figure out what is going on. Please, if you have purchased one of my pups and are not following my recommended guidelines for dog foods and treats, .........please reconsider. So far the two main foods I feed have not been affected. If you would like more information, please check online under "pet food recall." Thanks so much. Holly

BATH/GROOMING DAY

Every Saturday I spend much of my day grooming and bathing all the dogs. Each one first gets trimmed, ears, feet and butt. I then trim their nails and use the special eye wipes for staining and give them a good teeth brushing.

Then off to the bath. I use Pet Silk Moisturizing shampoo. When you bathe your yorkie, be sure to not scrub the shampoo into their coat. I lather down and gently pull the coat away and out from the body to help eliminate making tangles and knots. Be sure to wash their bottoms well. I then rinse. After I am sure to have the soap out, I apply a good moisturing conditioner. Again I use the same technique. Then I rinse, and rinse and rinse some more. Just when I think I am finished........I rinse again. Obviously it is really important to rinse.LOL.

I towel dry with lite pressure.....no scrubbing again. I blow dry and wait until the coat is still slightly wet to then comb. Be really careful not to rip hairs and if you encounter any snarls w0rk them out slowly. Once combed thru, I finish blow drying and sissor trim anything else I think needs it. I finish them with a squirt of Miracle Coat Finishing spray. I clean out their ears well and pull hairs. Then I put their topknots in. At home I ponytail them. OH HOW BEAUTIFUL!!

Today baths were done and the sun was shining brightly on the porch. So of course they all love that..............and rub, and work at getting the bows out and messing up their hair..............oh well...the satisfaction is knowing they have been done and that they are all spic and span clean! Grady demonstrates well just what I am talking about............the little devil!! (see pic above.) Holly

BRAGGING RIGHTS!

I really wanted to tell all of you how the Meet the Breeds went. It was my first time taking any of the girls out in public to that kind of event. Unfortunately, I remembered everything except the camera but I took a picture of the center poster that I did for our table.
The event drew a good crowd of people and it was lots of fun. I was slightly surprized about the misbehaving dogs that were there though. There was a group of 3 dashhounds that never stopped barking at people all day, 2 huge black sheppards that tried to attack every dog within site and a few others that scrapped and barked on the attack at different times. I have to say that the girls were perfect angels and did nothing wrong all day. Ali and Anya, the two pups I brought were a HUGE hit with everyone there. Of course they looked like little dolls and basically slept most of the afternoon. Ruby with just 3 weeks to go in her pregnancy just soaked up the attention and she looked absolutely beautiful with her red and rhinestone show bow in her hair. She sat/layed atop the grooming table, slept for awhile but never swayed from allowing visitors to pet her and make of her all day.
Demonstrations were given on obedience and agility. Then they had the exhibition of breeds and guess what...........I had to go in the show ring with Ruby. I was soooooooo nervous but she was perfect, prancing along on the lead and stood beautifully as asked. I was so pleased when people cheering and clapped their hands for her, I almost cried. It was a great day and a great experience for all of us. We were able to educate lots of people regarding yorkie care, temperment and on confirmation. All the way around, Scott and I were extremely pleased with the day. Holly

RUBY'S ULTRASOUND

Well I have to say that Ruby was the BEST girl today. She had to lay belly side up in a padded tray and she never moved a muscle the whole time. Unfortunately with this ultrasound, we could not confirm the number of pups. Dr Hutchins believes that there may be 3, but maybe more.....
In the picture on the right you can see 2 roundish areas, one on each side at the top. This is a picture of 2 pups. On the left you can clearly see the head on this pup and you can even make out the eye, ears and nose!!! We also could see the little hearts beating.........How cool is that??This was truly an exciting morning for us and Ruby took it all in stride. We will still have an x-ray on April 6th to be sure!! Holly

SOMETHING SPECIAL

We are doing something special today and it's a FIRST for Taylor Made Yorkies....... I am taking Ruby up to see Dr Hutchins and we are going to have our first ULTRASOUND done ever. Part of the reason is that Doc would like us to have the results posted on our website for people to see. I have received rave reviews related to posting the x-rays on our site and we thought it would interesting to have an ultrasound on as well. The other reason is that Ruby is due April 11th and is not showing much........so this way we will know how many and what their sizes are already. We will not have to have the x-ray next week. I will try to get it posted later today!!

SUNBATHING BABIES

I looked into the whelping box yesterday afternoon and here are 3 of Abbies pups basking in the sunshine. The one to the far left was really soaking it up! How cute is that!!
We still have a male pup available out of this litter. If interested please let us know. Enjoy.........Holly

EXCITING NEWS GONE SOUR!!

A couple of weeks ago I posted that I had some exciting news. Not only did it generate lots of interest, but lots of guesses and it was FUN to see all the thoughts and creativity people had. Well unfortunately, the wind from my sails was knocked down and the exciting news has gone sour........ I guess that happens sometimes.
You see, I had purchased a new puppy, a show quality male from a woman that I met last year, however, due to contractual problems, the sale fell through. Many show breeders sign strict contracts even on outside breedings and if not careful, it limits what they can do. Although she was going to co-own him with me and help me show him, the Sire's owner refused to sign off on the papers and wants to buy the pup back.
Of course I am truly disappointed but a great lesson learned. I am confident it is just a matter of time before I DO find a new addition to our family, as the future will come soon and TMY will need a new male to breed with our up and coming young moms...........thanks for all your excitement and support. I appreciate it. Holly

ABBIE'S FIRST LITTER-PICTURES

Abbie and her babies are just doing fantastic. She is such a natural and as you can see, she is smiling in her picture, although I kind of think she looks like she is saying........"what did you do to me???" She certainly is going to busy with 5 babies!!! Congrats to Andrew and Jaclyn and to Justine for making a "boy" choice!! Holly

ABBIE HAS DELIVERED

3/18/07 Sunday.......... After a morning of baths and lots of visitors for Jazzy's puppies this afternoon, Abbie decided it was time to have her babies.

She just delivered her beautiful litter. She started pushing around 8 pm and by 9:30 mom and babies were all resting. She did wonderful and this was the fastest delivery we have had so far..........
Abbie broke the trend with this delivery!!! We are very excited and the pups are just adorable!

She had 4 BOYS and one little girl.

The girl was born first and weighed in at 3 7/8 oz, then the boys followed weighing 3 7/8, 2 1/2, 4 1/4, and 4 oz in that order. I will have some pictures soon. I apologize to all the folks out there that we have contracts for on girls.......for this is a first for us with the BOYS....something we cannot predict........Holly
